Grading
I do not accept failure. If your assignment is not satisfactory, YOU CAN REDO
IT UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT for no higher than an 80%. However, this is
your choice, if you CHOOSE not to discuss it with me, then YOU HAVE CHOSEN
TO FAIL.
Late work can be made up for no higher than a 70%.
Class presentations must be given on the day they are due. If you are ill and
cannot present you must see me or leave a message for me prior to the due
date, otherwise you will receive ZERO. This applies to groups as well as
individuals. Missing presentations is unfair to the group, the class and me (you
too, since you get zero). As a precaution, make sure that all group members
have a copy of the info presented.
Double-space all major assignments using a word processor (Times New
Roman - 12 font). You must use MLA style for all papers unless instructed
otherwise. Email me your assignment if you cannot print at home so that
it will not be considered late
Plagiarism
IB
Assignments
and Tests
All rules in the student handbook will be enforced as well.
Plagiarism is NOT tolerated! Plagiarism is the copying of another student's
work, or the use of an author or critic's comments or ideas without
documentation. Simply rewording is still plagiarism if you did not cite where
you “borrowed” the idea. DO NOT USE SPARK NOTES IN YOUR JOURNALS. If
you plagiarize, you will receive ZERO on the assignment. If you are caught
“sharing” your work or “collaborating” you will receive a zero. Do not be
caught with someone else’s work, do not be caught giving your work to some
else!!!!!!!!!!!!
Students are required for IB certification to complete the IOP (Individual Oral
Presentation) worth 15% of your IB English Grade, and the WRITTEN
ASSIGNMENT worth 25% of the IB English grade
 IOP’s are based on Part IV of the syllabus. Students are required to
make a 10-15 minute presentation and monitor the subsequent
discussion on a predetermined topic verified by the teacher from
selections in Part IV of the IB syllabus. Presentations will take place in
January.
 Written Assignment is completed prior to the end of Semester 1
 Supervised Writing a quiz grade
 Reflective Statements 2 class work grades
 Journals: will be scored as a homework grade for completion of the
journal.
 Vocabulary: There will be both homework assignments and tests given
periodically.
 Essays & Presentations: Students will be required to give essays or
presentations based upon the works studied. These will be graded as
tests using the appropriate IB Rubric. To prepare for the 11th grade
writing tests, students are also required to produce at least 2 persuasive
pieces. 1st semester essays are analytical to prepare for the Written
Assignment and 2nd semester essays will be comparative in order to
prepare for the final exam.
