We believe we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, that the Bible is the rule for Christian life and faith, and that the Good News of Jesus should be proclaimed in word and deed. Sacrament Celebrating. We believe God ministers to the community of believers in unique and special ways through Baptism and Holy Communion. Liturgically Oriented. We believe remembering the whole life of Christ is important for spiritual maturity. We follow the church calendar, celebrating seasons like Advent and Lent. Ecumenically Minded. In the context of our heritage, we believe all those who call upon Jesus as Lord will share in his eternal blessings and so we welcome all believers who join us to participate fully in worship. WELCOME Thanks for visiting with us today! Feel free to call one of the pastors, Rev. John, Rev. Steve. Rev. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful church family. A special thank you to Rev. John Richter for the wonderful funeral message.” ~ The Family of Paul Rigsby “Dear Church, Thank you so much for the thoughts, prayers and the beautiful plant sent in remembrance of James Lewey.” ~Sincerely Doug Lewey IF A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS…. …then a video must be worth a million!?! At Saint John’s we are blessed with many opportunities for worship, baptisms, children & adult productions, fellowships, etc. and we’d like to keep these memories indefinitely! Because of the physical demands on a camera, and the need for versatility (i.e. the ability of simulcasting services in the choir suite), a simple home camera would not survive long nor meet the needs. Therefore, we need to invest in a professional camera. The approximate cost is $3800 and is not an item included in our regular church budget. Would you prayerfully consider making a financial donation towards this purchase? See Karen or Rev. Adam if you’d like to help! PIANO LESSONS If your child is between the ages of 6-18 yrs old and is interested in enrolling in piano lessons, please contact Rev. Adam King (256-734-0344) for more information. OPERATION SHOEBOX MINISTRY Boxes to be sent around the world with the message of love found in knowing Jesus as our Savior. Please help us by purchasing a few school supplies (pencils, crayons rulers, coloring books, pencil sharpeners, etc,) to be included in a small shoebox. JOHN’S EXTEND A CALL FOR A NEW SENIOR PASTOR? For only the third time in over forty years we will be calling a new Sr. Pastor to lead St. John’s. After a Senior Pastor announces his retirement/resignation, the Church Council serves as, or appoints, a Search Committee. After establishing a vision for pastoral leadership (gifts, qualities, attributes, expectations, etc.) in accord with Article VIII of the Constitution, the position is announced through a variety of places (web sites, seminaries, etc.). Interested individuals present resumes to be reviewed by the search committee. When the Search Committee has selected the person they feel God has called to be the new Sr. Pastor, they (the Search Committee) present the candidate to the Church Council for approval and formal nomination to the Congregation. Following the nomination, several opportunities will be made available for the congregation to get to know the candidate and his family. This process concludes with a sermon delivered during Sunday morning worship. This process is done in accordance with our Church Constitution: ARTICLE VIII, SECTION 7. The Council shall nominate one candidate for Pastor to be voted upon by the Congregation. The Congregation shall consider only one candidate at a time and shall vote by ballot for his election or rejection. A Pastor is considered to have been elected if he is acclaimed by a two-thirds majority of those communicant members attending the Congregational meeting, provided a quorum is present. A quorum is said to be ten percent of the communicant members. A congregational meeting will be called to order before the first service on the day the prospective pastor preaches and adjourned after the last service of that day. A congregational vote, by ballot, will take place at the conclusion of each service on that day. Votes will be tallied and results announced following the last service. LIVE IT!!
