AP Economics Mrs. Salamon AP Microeconomics/AP Macroeconomics class Syllabus 2011-2012 Class description: Semester I: AP Microeconomics This course is an introduction to microeconomics and each student is expected to take the AP Microeconomics Exam that is administered in May. Microeconomics introduces students to the cost-benefit analysis that is the economic way of thinking. This analysis is used to understand smaller segments of the economy-specifically, consumers and producers – as they interact in an output markets and resource markets, and to understand the government’s impact on these specific economic units. Semester II: AP Macroeconomics This course is an introduction to macroeconomics and each student is expected to take the AP Macroeconomics Exam that is administered in May. Macroeconomics emphasizes economic principles as applied to the economy as a whole. Topics discussed will reflect the material included in the booklet AP Economics Course Description from the College Board. Lessons include an analysis of national income and its components, economic indicators, inflation and unemployment, money and banking, stabilization policies, and the United States and world trade. AP Microeconomics Test: Thursday, May 17th, 2012 (afternoon) AP Macroeconomics Test: Thursday, May 17th, 2012 (morning) Students are expected to take BOTH exams. Why? General distribution of points: Tests: 100 points each Weekly quizzes: 20 points each Homework assignments: 5 points each Case study assignments: 10 points each Team assignments: 20 points each Special projects: 50 points each Late work: All late work will be marked down 50%. You may not turn in any late work after each unit test. Grades will be updated every Monday. Extra credit: You may earn 10 points extra credit each quarter.
