JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Housing and Social Care Options Adviser LOCATION: Ashington Office ACCOUNTABLE TO: Information & Advice Manager REPORTING TO: Information & Advice Manager RESPONSIBLE FOR: None HOURS: 28 hours pw LENGTH OF CONTRACT 18 months from October 2013 PURPOSE: To provide a Housing & Care Options information, advice and support service to older people in Northumberland through casework, one off advices/information (including by telephone) and through talks to older people and professionals at events. All will be delivered working in partnership with the National First Stop service. MAIN DUTIES: In consultation with the Information & Advice (I&A) Manager the person appointed will work as part of a team of paid and voluntary staff, including with a one day per week advocate working on the same project: To deliver a housing and social care options casework service to older people (50+ and/or to friends and relatives) and to provide housing and social care options information and advice by telephone including legal advice, practical support and signposting to specialist services To deliver talks to older people and to the statutory and voluntary sector in Northumberland raising awareness of rights and to promote national and local advice services To manage own caseload with minimal supervision; To carry out home visits, outreach work and presentations as necessary; To assist in developing the knowledge of generalist volunteers around housing and social care issues; JD HSCOA Aug 13 Page 1 of 2 To help raise and maintain awareness of the service within the statutory and voluntary sector; To maintain detailed confidential case records, files and statistics both on paper and on computer; To provide written progress reports for the I&A manager; To comply with the monitoring requirements and targets set by the funder; To keep up to date with legislation and case law and undertake appropriate research and training; To prepare for and attend relevant supervision sessions/team meetings/other internal meetings as appropriate; To attend external meetings in consultation with the I&A Manager as appropriate; To work with the I&A Manager and First Stop to develop and promote a range of housing and care options information materials To work with the I&A Manager and First Stop to develop and improve client feedback mechanisms To abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues; To abide by Age UK Northumberland’s (AUKN) confidentiality, data protection and safeguarding policies and by relevant Data Protection legislation To implement AUKN’s equal opportunities policy both internally and in the delivery of services to the public; To adhere to AUKN’s organisational policies and procedures To undertake any other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as delegated by the I&A Manager.
