Registration for SALEM Literary Circle 2015/16 Due August 15th Old Testament Survey with Thelma English OTS Grades 8-12 (grade 7 with permission: good readers) 8:30 am-10:30 am THURSDAY In this one credit class (English, Bible, or Ancient History), students read most of the Old Testament, exploring exegetical insights and archaeological evidence to understand the OT narrative as a whole. In class PowerPoint presentations, students will learn a basic outline of ancient history, introductions to each book, and the Hebrew and Greek alphabets to enable them to use scholarly resources. Weekly topics include Ancient Empire mapping, Dating Abraham, the Tabernacle, the Temple, the Name of God, Hezekiah’s Tunnel, Shema, Aaronic Blessing, Bethlehem, Jericho, Dating Easter, OT Holy Days, Dead Sea Scrolls, Assyria, Babylon, and Persia (plus more). Thelma's Master's studies in Exegetical Theology equip her to strengthen the confidence of young Christians. Parents welcome as space allows. The 200-page Syllabus compliments weekly Bible readings with additional insight from magazine articles, book excerpts, outlines, charts, maps, and optional additional audio lessons. Weekly assignments include map making, memorization, mini biographies, artistic interpretations, charts, and lists. Each two-hour weekly session is full PowerPoint. Non-Faith Baptist Church attendees: Tuition is $400 plus a $30 materials fee ($430 total fees). No sibling discount. Required text is the Bible: NAS, ESV, KJV, NKJV, NIV. Highly suggested is the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary (retail $29.97: Thelma gets them for $20 on Amazon). The class will be held from 8:30 am to 10:30 am (with a ten-minute break) on Thursdays, beginning September 10th 2015 and ending May 12th 2016.
