Broadwing Bio
Ben Allen is a songwriter and producer living in Alice Springs. He writes eclectic music under the
name ‘Broadwing’, and has received airplay on Triple J several times where his songs have garnered
positive reviews from listeners and presenters.
His songs feature an amalgamation of organic and software instrumentation and are written and
recorded entirely at home. As a live entity his range from stripped back acoustic shows to more
involved electronically aided performances.
Host of ‘Home and Hosed’, Dom Alessio, said of his work, “An incredible talent from the middle of
Australia. What’s more impressive is that it’s just one guy!”
Ben was chosen from 900 entrants to win the 2012 Apra Tropscore competition and performed his
work in front of an audience of 90,000 at Tropfest in the Domain, Sydney.
Since winning tropscore Ben has moved further into scoring, writing a piece for the 'Jeep Life Search'
campaign which aired nationally on radio and television.
In 2012 he was one of the eight artists chosen in the Triple J Apra Song Summit competition where
he was invited to attend the summit and participate in a roundtable discussion with Gotye and
Adalita Srsen.
Ben was the winner of Audio Technology Magazine’s ‘Biggest Remix Comp in the World’ and
received over $13,000 worth of studio gear.
His debut EP ‘Pinhole Camera’ was released June 2014. Its lead single ‘Anodyne’ was played on Triple
J as was the follow up single ‘The Virus In’, which was also added to Double J regular rotation.
He also released two self-produced videos to accompany the singles with hand drawn animation.
The EP received online critical praise.
