Idaho Falls Student Activities Board Director, Jorge Vasquez- There was a Welcome Week event in Idaho Falls. Three themes of ‘Welcome’ were focused on for this event. For traditional students, Welcome Week focused on the transition from high school to college. Students were fed breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Last year, there were approximately 130-150 people for breakfast, 170 for lunch, and 160 for dinner. This year the attendance numbers have increased by approximately 300 students. The advertising done by the Idaho Falls Student Activities Board is really paying off. They are keeping students updated on their events. In September, SAB-IF did a Brown Bag Lunch series. The students really enjoyed it. Another big event that took place was a lunch with the Idaho Falls Union Program Council. SAB planned on feeding 125 people and ended up feeding 150 so attendance numbers really spiked. Since that event, attendance numbers have been increasing. Today the Bengal Wednesday Extravaganza took place. SAB-IF understands the ASISU push for Bengal Wednesday, and as a result they are trying to get students to wear ISU colors to show pride. For Bengal Wednesday Extravaganza, they planned for 152 and a total of 185 showed. An Idaho Falls Fall Semester event schedule was given to all of the Senators. All activities and events can be found on www.isu.edu/idahofalls.The Zombie Hunt is coming up on October 8. It is a week-long event where the programmer in charge of the event is the main zombie. It’s a game of tag where you use Nerf guns as weapons. Nerf guns will be rented out to students with their Bengal Cards. It’s a fun event with different objectives for the alternating days that students are on campus. This is the first time this will be taking place in Idaho Falls. Jorge Vaquez invited Senators to come participate in this event if they’d like. For rules and regulations, please visit http://humansvszombies.org/. Four advertising chalkboards have been set up around campus so that students can be informed about events. The chalkboards have been really effective. 2. Idaho Falls Union Program Council Programmer, Norma Villeda- SAB and UPC work together a lot on the Idaho Falls campus. Increased advertising has really been paying off. The Welcome Week, Lunch with the Band, and the Constitution Bowl were awesome events with high attendance numbers. Currently, Idaho Falls Union Program Council is organizing many community service projects and making arrangements for the benefit dinner in December. Senator Doupé recognized Senator Schritter. 3. Idaho Falls Bennion Student Union Director, Ches Barnes- Ches Barnes thanked ASISU for coming to Idaho Falls and creating the opportunity for student involvement on that campus. He said that he is very proud of the Idaho Falls SAB, UPC, clubs, and ASISU Representative. There has been an energy in Idaho Falls this year that has never been seen before. What happened during Welcome Week was phenomenal. Chartwells helped deal with increased attendance. Seeing the hard work that is put in makes Ches proud to be a director in Idaho Falls. 4. Bengal Breeze, Ches Barnes- Bengal Breeze wasn’t able to attend the Senate meeting but Ches expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to talk about this organization. Bengal Breeze is a kite-flying club. But its not just about flying kites. They’re about community service and getting involved on campus. Bengal Breeze is planning to go out to the elementary schools and teach children about kite flying. A copy of the club’s constitution was given to Chair Zamora. Bengal Breeze will be involved in campus life and their own activities on campus. As an organization, Bengal Breeze has met all of the requirements for approval. Val Davids has given her approval as well. MOVE TO APPROVE THE BENGAL BREEZE CLUB. Seeliger/Doupé. Unanimous. MOTION CARRIED. OLD BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS 1. DATE OF FIRST INTRODUCTION: _October 3, 2012__ SENATE ACTION: Passed DATE: October 3, 2012 ASISU PRESIDENT: ______________________ DATE: _______________________ ASISU SECRETARY: _____________________ DATE: _______________________ MOVE TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 517. Christiaens/Mitu. OBJECTION. Discussion. Senator Christiaens said that the reason that she proposed this resolution is because the Meridian Health Science center is growing. There are many health fields included in this program and ASISU should support this project because there is only one lab that includes cadavers in Idaho and that is at Idaho State University in Pocatello in the basement of the Biology building. Senator Christiaens believes that there should be one for professionals in Meridian as well. Senator Miklos asked if the one in Pocatello is the only one in the whole state of Idaho, Senator Christiaens said it was. Senator Miklos said that this is a really one-sided resolution, and asked why no one from Health Sciences was supporting this resolution. Senator Christiaens said that there are no Health Sciences senators because as a Senator with a Health Science major, she is representing several Health Science clubs and organizations. Senator Parrish asked if this will be a cadaver lab. Senator Christiaens said it was and that she is just calling for support from ASISU to build the lab in Meridian. Senator Miklos asked any Senator in Health Sciences if this resolution was supported by their constituents and departments. Senator Parrish said that he knows that the College of Pharmacy students are in support and would be appreciative of this lab. He also said that he knows College of Southern Idaho (CSI) has a lab but their bodies are donated from other universities. He believes that having another lab would be beneficial. Senator Ward said that the Health Science students that he has spoken to show nothing but support for this project. PREVIOUS. MOTION CARRIED. ADJOURNMENT MOVE TO ADJOURN. Stevenson/Seeliger.
