2012-2013 H4E Schedule of Classes
Humanities for Everybody (H4E) is continuously recruiting students for a 10-week course beginning September 10,
2012 & a 15-week course beginning January 14, 2013. Classes will meet on Mondays and Thursdays during the
Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cooper Apartments, 611 W. Lovell St.
Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
Fall 2012 (Mondays & Thursdays, 6:30 to 8 pm)
Module 1: “History of American Slavery” – Dr. Sally Hadden, History – (Sept. 10th – Oct. 11th, 2012)
Module 2: “Shakespeare – A Midsummer Night’s Dream” - Dr. Thomas Bailey, English Literature –
(Oct. 22nd – Nov. 26th, 2012)
**The first week of the “Shakespeare” class will be held on Monday October 22 nd and Wednesday October 24th (The
schedule change is for this week only; classes will resume the Mon./Thurs. schedule the week of October 29 th)
***No class Thursday November 22nd (Thanksgiving Day)
Spring 2013 (Mondays & Thursdays, 6:30 to 8 pm)
Module 3: “Freedom and Empowerment” – Dr. Kathy Purnell, WMU Office for the VP for Research –
(Jan. 14th – Feb. 14th, 2013)
Module 4: “The Black Experience: From 1866 to the Present” – Dr. Mariam Konaté, Gender & Women’s Studies –
(Feb. 25th – March 28th, 2013)
**Module 4 teaches through WMU’s Spring Break (March 4 – 8, 2013)
Module 5: “Philosophy, Justice and Well-being” Dr. Paul Farber, Teaching, Learning & Educational Studies –
(April 1st – May 2nd, 2013)
**Module 5 teaches through WMU’s Exam Week (April 22 – 26, 2013)
