AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) FAQs for 2015-2016 Q: What class is this? A: This is the American Sign Language (ASL) class. Q: Is there a new BHS ASL website? A: Yes. The new website has been set up. Each of them has navigation features: Home – The main BHS ASL website. ASL Lessons – All lessons from the Signing Naturally textbooks. ASL Study Guide – Helps all students get information to prepare studying any lessons for tests/quiz. ASL Projects – All project details for students to follow through. ASL Assignments – All detailed assignments where students could follow to complete their homework within due dates. ASL Resources – Any interesting ASL/Deaf-HH links for students to browse through. A: Yes, you will need the CD-ROM/DVD drive so that you can use it to perform any ASL classwork. A: During the course of this school year, you will review ASL vocabularies, fingerspelling, numbers and stories. Chapter themes include introductions, exchanging personal information, discussing living situations, talking about family, activities, and storytelling. ASL grammars and classifiers will be included throughout all ASL levels of I to III. Q: While in the classroom, can I use my voice instead of using the sign language to communicate? A: No. All students are expected to comply the rule. Instead of using their voice, they can use signs to communicate with all of us. Failure to comply the rule will result in some points deduction. Q: Is text messaging allowed in the classroom? A: No. Your phone device will be confiscated to your teacher’s desk immediately. Anyone with their chronic text messaging habit, will place their phone device on the teacher’s desk prior to the class time. Q: Will there be homework? A: Yes. At least once per week. Homework will be mostly performed using signed videos. Videos will be stored into the database at the website address of http://www.goreact.com. Q: Where can I find my homework assignments? A: Of course, you will need to complete your assigned homework at least once per week. All homework are expected to be completed on the due date BEFORE the ASL class starts. Failure to complete the homework will receive the 10-point deduction AND you will come to my classroom the same day AFTER school hour to finish your homework. Failure to show up in my classroom will result in a zero grade. If this becomes a habit, your will be assigned a Saturday School in order to catch up with your schoolwork. Q: What happens if I finished making up my late homework after or outside Saturday School hours? A: Your zero grade will be adjusted to 50% to 70% depending on your quality of work on your homework. Q: What happens if I miss an assignment because I am sick, out of town, or have a family emergency? A: In the event of any of the above, you will be able to make up any work you missed (including classwork, quizzes, and tests). You have as many days as you were absent to make up your work (e.g. you’re out for two days, you get two days to hand in what you missed). Q: How much are homework, classwork, quizzes, and tests worth? A: Tests/Quizzes make up 25% of your grade, Activities/Projects 30%, classwork 30%, and homework 15%.
