733 International Business
Duration: 1 Term
Prerequisite: Introduction to Business
Even though we have the most dominant economy in the world, the United States represents only 5% of the world’s
population. In a global economy, the importance of understanding foreign markets is increasing at a dramatic pace. In
International Business, students will learn about the cultures and economies of world markets like the European Union,
the Pacific Rim and Asia, Africa, and Central and South American countries. Students are encouraged to join Business
Professionals of America (BPA) or DECA.
Course Outline
UNIT: THE WORLD OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
Objectives
 Explain the role of international business; analyze how it impacts businesses at all levels including role and
impact, geography, career opportunities, travel considerations.
 Describe the interrelatedness of the social, cultural, political, legal, and economic factors that shape and impact
the international business environment including: social and cultural influences, political environment, legal
systems, and economic environment.

UNIT: ORGANIZATION FOR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
Objectives
 Identify forms of business ownership and entrepreneurial opportunities available in international business
including: forms of business ownership, entrepreneurial opportunities, international business involvement, and
international business success.
 Relate balance of trade concepts to the import/export process including: importing and exporting, trade barriers
and agreements, and balance of trade.

intermediaries, transportation and shipping, and promotional activities.
 Apply communication strategies necessary and appropriate for effective and profitable international business
relations including: oral and written communications, nonverbal communications, negotiations, and technology.

exchange, financial institutions and trade agreements, payment methods and reporting, and risk management.
 Analyze special challenges in operations and human resource management in international business including:
operations and production, human resources, and strategic management.

I-pods are not allowed in class unless the instructor has given permission.
Use the restroom before or after class.
Cell-phones must always be turned off & remain in a backpack, purse or pocket for the duration of class.
Actions and language must always be appropriate to maintain a professional environment. Profanity will not be
tolerated. There is a time and place for everything and a business classroom is not the place to use offensive
language
Attendance:
BE HERE!! I will miss you when you are not here. Students that have good attendance in my classes usually have better
grades and have a better understanding of the information. Besides, I am strict with the tardy policy.
Assignments





It is expected that homework assignments be completed at the beginning of the hour.
Any work submitted after the beginning of the hour will be considered late.
o Late work will be accepted at 70% of the original value and only for up to 2 days after due.
o Zero credit will be earned thereafter, unless arrangements have been made.
When you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain class information from another Marketing student, the class
Moodle site or the teacher and review the lesson plan notes.
Work that was assigned prior to your absence is due the day of your return. Ex. Assignment is given on Tuesday, you
are absent on Wednesday, work is still due on Thursday.
Test and quizzes must be made-up before or after school when arranged with teacher. I am available most days but
contact me to make arrangements to stay after school to makeup work or get assistance with work if needed.
