Typhoon summary (Data source: Central Agency of Disaster Mitigation and Prevention.)
The eye of typhoon Morakot was observed approximately on the sea surface 180 km north of Mazu today (August10) at05:30 CST. The Beaufort 7 storm radius of
typhoon Morakot is 120km and is traveling with a speed of 15 km-per-hour and with a direction of north;
Regional extremely heavy rain or torrential rain is
expected in areas south of Miaoli due to southwest airflow and the chance of extremely torrential rain is high. Extremely heavy rain occurred mainly in mountain
area, and regional heavy rain or torrential rain will probably occur in other regions. Mountainside areas shall prepare for mudflow and landslides, falling rocks, and
mountain torrents; Low land areas shall prepare for floods and seawater backflows.
