Stock Market Activity http://Keeferhonecon.wikispaces.com/ Goals: The goals of this activity are to help students gain knowledge of terms associated with the stock market, read and understand an internet stock display and apply their knowledge by participating in an on-line virtual stock market investing game. Parts of the Activity 1. Stock Terms and Activity (10 points) Complete a worksheet of terms associated with the stock market. Use that to complete activity and show understanding of stocks. 2. Stock Justification Sheet (5 points) Investigate three stocks and recommend one to their stock market group by completing the stock justification sheet to begin the game. 3. On-line Stock Market Game (25 points) Students will work in groups to participate in the on-line stock market game and keep a weekly journal of this activity. A. Students will work in groups of 2 or 3 to create an investment group that will make trades at least 4 times during the game. B. Go to http://www.marketwatch.com/game/?link=MW_Nav_GA C. Be sure to read the directions on this site and my wiki site!!!! D. Group must make at least three trades per week during the duration of the activity. (March 5 – April 4) E. The goal is to make as much money as possible over the course of the game. 4. Summary Paper of the Stock Market Activity (20 points) - Students write a paper summarizing their experience participating in the stock market activity. Details and questions for this paper are listed below. Total Points for this Activity = 60 points Grading: On-line Stock Market Game – 25 points Points will be determined by the checklist below. Students will be rated on a scale for different areas (This will be based on teacher observation, self ratings and peer ratings) _____ out of 5 points for completing 3 trades each week. _____ out of 5 points for justifying purchases and answering key questions from teacher in journal per week (20 pt). Summary Paper for Stock Market Activity - 20 points Students will write a one page paper summarizing their experience with this activity. They will use their weekly journals as a guide for their paper. Questions to consider in the summary paper: 1. What do you feel you have learned from completing this activity? How could the stock market affect your future especially if the recession becomes a depression or if a bull market takes hold? 2.
