Pre-Prep Activities – Michaelmas Term 2013
I have pleasure in providing details of our Michaelmas Term Activity programme which begins on Monday 9th
September and ends on Friday 6th December. Please note no paid or unpaid activities take place in the first and last
weeks of term. Please note that all the information contained within this letter is for information only and should not
be used for booking your Activities; this will be done via ‘My Chq’.
We have made some more changes to the way activities are booked. Archway Football and Judo are now no longer
booked and administered by the School, but by the Clubs respectively. All bookings and payments for these clubs,
together with Mrs Ashley’s Swim School and Dance Act should be made on the relevant registration forms and should
be sent, together with a cheque for the term’s fees, directly to the instructors or left in the School Office for collection.
Any questions about these activities should be addressed to the instructor concerned. However please do remember
to add any payable Activity to your online choices. Please note Students already registered with Dance Act will be
automatically re-enrolled and will receive an email from the company to that effect. Anyone wanting to join for the
first time should fill in the form as instructed on their attached pages.
We would encourage parents of Reception children to choose a maximum of one activity per week for the
Michaelmas term.

Activities are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis – if an activity is full when you try to book it, you will
be automatically be placed on the waiting list. You may still get a place, so please rank this activity as you
would if it were available.

Payable activities offered by outside instructors are now to be booked directly with the instructor running the
course. Please send your application/registration form and payment directly to the instructor or company.
Details of costs and payments can be found by clicking the
information icon next to the activity and on
the “Paid Activities” sheet which accompanies the list of activities on offer.

You will need to book the Activities via ‘My Chq’ using the log in/passwords used last term. Online booking will open
at 6.00pm on Friday 14th June and will close at 9.00pm on Wednesday 19th June. We will remind you by email of the
day and time at which online booking will open. You will be able to book and make changes to your choices at any
point while the online pages are open. The e-mail will also give you full details of the date and time at which the
pages will be closed and locked.
Please note that once the online booking sheets have closed you will no longer make changes to your child’s Activities.
Should you wish to withdraw your child from a club, you may do so by notifying Mrs Gray. However your child will not
be able to move between clubs or join a new one after this date, so we would urge you to impress this on your
children and ensure that they make the correct choices. Please note particularly the cost of withdrawing your child
from a paid Activity after the closing date – this is one term’s fees. In order to help your children with their choices, a
description of the activities, which will take place in each club, is attached.
You will receive an email from us, confirming your child’s Activity schedule, once applications have been processed.
You will also be able to print details of your child’s Activity programme directly if you wish to once club members have
been finalised. Requests to withdraw from an Activity after the cut off date can be e-mailed to Mrs Gray via
jgray@stmichaels.kent.sch.uk.
We try to offer a wide range of activities, so that there is something for everyone. However, if numbers are very low,
some Activities may not run.
Lastly, please remember to add any payable Activity to your online choices.

Ball Skills/Parachute Games: Have fun with Miss Rawlinson
Ballet/Musical Theatre/Primary Ballet and Tap/Boys Street Dance: See attached timetable for details of classes, age
groups and times. Dance Act Associate School is an established Performing Arts school, run by Vikki Aldridge and
Fiona Murphy. Costs per term are as follows: 30 minute class (£44.00); 45 minute class (£52.50); 60 minute class
(£71.50). Payment is due prior to the start of term and will be invoiced directly by Dance Act. Please reserve place by
emailing info@danceact.co.uk or completing the registration form attached.
NB: Students already registered with Dance Act will be automatically re-enrolled and will receive an email from the

Chess: Learn the rudimentaries of the chess game with Mrs Leech
Cinema Club: Watch a DVD and relax at the end of the school week
Colouring Club: Enjoy colouring with Mrs Barton
Construction: Build with a range of construction toys
Computers and Lego: Learn and practise computer skills and enjoy the popular construction toy
Cross Country: Making good use of our wonderful School Fields
Dance/Rhythmic Gym: Miss Rawlinson and Miss Parsons will make this session fun!
Ding Dong Bell: Fun with hand bells with Mrs. Beesley
Dressing Up and Role Play: Have fun with the dressing up box and Miss Farmer
Hama Beads: Have fun being creative with beads with Mrs Jeffery
Instrumental Group: An orchestra with percussion run by Mrs Mumford
Judo: Open to Y1 / Y2
Lexia: Fun based computer phonics programme with Mrs Marsden
Lego and Computers: Enjoy the popular construction toy and practise computer skills
Magic Carpet: Learn about different cultures with Mrs Martin in an ‘elevational’ way
Paper Craft: Creative fun with Mrs Williams
Patchwork: Mrs Smith will teach you the basic rudimentary sewing skills to learn this beautiful craft. A £5 donation
towards the cost of materials is requested (in a sealed envelope addressed to Mrs Smith please).
Puzzles: Fun with puzzles with Mrs Cain and Mrs Smith
Recorder Club: Open to Year 2
Relax and Unwind: Watch a DVD, enjoy a story or play games – depending on how the mood takes!
Story Time: Unwind at the end of the day with a story with Miss Luck
Super Science Club: Scientific investigation with Mrs McCracken!
Swimming: Swimming will continue next term run by Mrs Joan Ashley, whose qualifications include ASA Teacher’s
Certificate, ASA Parent and Child Certificate, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and First Aid at Work Certificate.
Each group will have a minimum of four and a maximum of eight swimmers. Classes, costs and terms and conditions
are on her attached letter and bookings must be made directly with Mrs Ashley, using the official booking form
(please print the booking form double sided, so that the certificate record table appears on the back of the
registration sheet). Parents must collect their child and walk them to the School Swimming Pool and assist with
changing.
Paid Activities
Michaelmas Term 2013
Archway Football Academy
Sports Field. Years R to Yr 2. Fridays 3.30 to 4.00pm.
Carlos Lopez is a UEFA grade A Soccer coach who has worked for Arsenal FC in their academy as a coach and scout for
the last 5 years. He runs Archway Football Academy and will be working in school on Friday afternoons as part of the
activity programme. The cost of the course is £80.00 for the term. Registration and booking forms should be
completed and sent directly to Mr Lopez or left in the School Office for Mr Lopez’s attention.
Instrumental Group
Music Room. Yr 2 only 3.30 to 4.00pm.
Mrs Mumford runs this Activity; there is a nominal charge will be invoiced directly by the teacher (Currently £3.00 per
session).
Recorders - Breaktime
Mrs Mumford runs this Activity for Yr 2 children; there is a nominal charge will be invoiced directly by the teacher
which is dependent upon numbers.
Dance Act
Pre-Prep Hall. All year groups. See attached timetable for details of classes, age groups and times. Dance Act

Pre-Prep Hall. Years 1 and 2, from 3.30 to 4.00pm and Advanced Judo 4.15 to 5.00pm.
Mr C Bowles organises this Club. The club requires a minimum of 16 members and there is a maximum of 24.
The cost for this activity for the Michaelmas Term is £65.00. Registration and booking forms should be completed and
sent directly to Mr Bowles or left in the School Office for Mr Bowles’s attention. Priority will be given to those already
attending but spaces are available should you wish to join.
Swimming Club
Swimming Club will continue next term run by Mrs Joan Ashley, whose qualifications include ASA Teacher’s Certificate,
ASA Parent and Child Certificate, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and First Aid at Work Certificate. Each group
