Dear Most Valuable Clients,
As you know, this year the ATO is processing the tax returns extremely
strictly and they are checking each and every thing. So we need to be
very careful for the past and the future as well.
If you are on work visa, you don’t need to pay Medicare levy. In those
circumstances, you need to apply for the exemption certificate and we
are helping you without extra charge and WE EXPECT THAT YOU
ARE DOING THE TAX RETURN WITH US. IF NOT, WE MAY ASK
FOR A SERVICE FEE.
So what we need to do now is
In July 2012 you are going to lodge 2012 returns (for the income period
01/07/11 to 30/06/2012).
So you need to apply for the exemption certificates for 2012.
Please check whether you applied for 2011 or not and whether you got the
certificate or not. If you have not applied for the Medicare levy exemption
certificate, (and have applied for a 2011 tax return, and your income is more
than $18000) all you need to do is complete one more application form.

Answer: We will authorize
2. Can I scan and send to you?
Answer: No, please post it. If you scan and send it, Medicare levy
Exemption unit won’t accept.

Any questions with the form will be answered below:
For Question 1, you write what year the application is for (e.g. 2011-2012)
For Question 2, please fill as per your passport. In some cases, only the
given name will be there in the passport. For example, if the given name is
Kumar and there is no surname, then the surname is also Kumar In that
case, the entire name will be Kumar Kumar.
For Question 5, please put your own phone number if you are in Australia.
If not, put my phone number; (02) 98937877.
For Question 6, please write where you are living at the time of filling the
application form. You won’t get any communication to that address.
For Question 7, write PO Box 3918 Parramatta NSW 2124 (please fill exactly)
For Question 8(a), if you have sent the PR application to the Department of
Immigration, write yes, and if not, write no. If you are sending it before the
30th the June, please put the date that you are sending it. You will then
need to pay Medicare from the date that you sent it until the 30th of June.
(e.g. If you are sending it on the 25th of June, you will need to pay the
Medicare levy for 5 days until the 30th of June)
How much will I need to pay?
Answer: A very small amount.
If the application is not current, write the date that it was rejected.
For Question 8(b), write yes.
For Question 8(c), please understand and answer the question.
For Question 8(d), write the name of the country that you were in before
you came to Australia and the duration that you were there.
For Question 9, please put the dates that you were in Australia for during
that financial year. (e.g. if you came into the country on 8/08/2011 and are
still here, then please write 08/08/2011 to 30/06/2012)
For Question 10, if you are leaving Australia before 30/06/2012, write yes.
If you are not, write no, and leave the next question blank.
For Question 11, write the exact date if you are leaving before 30/06/2012.
For Question 12, write yes.

Then you need to sign the declaration, and post the application to us.
Some Other Doubts:
1. I am here with my partner and he/she is not working. Should we both
apply for the Medicare levy exemption?
Answer: Only whoever is working and lodging the tax returns should
apply for the exemption certificates.
2. When I am sending the application and passport copies should I send
my partner’s and children’s passport copies as well?
Answer: No, only the applicant’s passport copies are enough.
3. Who will get the certificate?
Answer: We will get the certificate and send it to the ATO. We will
scan and send it you at a later date.
4. Should we pay any money now?
Answer: No
5. I got 3 passports should I send all
Answer: Yes you need to send all the 3 passports used pages.
6. I came here very recently and my income for this year will be only
10k, should I apply for the Medicare levy exemption
Ans: NO, NO and if your income is more than 18 k only, please apply
