Simulation Modeling For Logistics & Manufacturing Facilities Conducted by: Dr Rajesh Piplani Date: 28 to 29 May 2002 Venue: NTU Executive Centre Organised by: Nanyang Technological University School of Mechanical & Production Engineering Centre for Continuing Education Registration Form (Photocopies of this form may be used for registrations) (Please TYPE or PRINT clearly) Please register the following person(s) for the course as follows: - Simulation Modeling for Logistics and Manufacturing Facilities Course Objective This course is especially designed for executives responsible for improving and optimizing the Logistics and Manufacturing operations of their companies. The participants would find the contents state-of-the-art, and the course helpful in becoming proficient in not only simulation model building, but also in using it as part of an operations/process improvement study. During the course, the participants would have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired simulation knowledge to build and analyze simulation models. They would also be exposed to some real-life case studies to illustrate the model-building concepts learned. Course Content The course consists of two modules, namely discrete event simulation modeling, and Simulation life cycle analysis The bulk of the time in the course is spent on discrete event simulation modeling. This module covers, in detail, simulation model building aspects of discrete systems (such as manufacturing and logistics facilities, supply-chains). In this module we also demonstrate how computer simulation is used to successfully model, analyze and improve systems under study. Simulation software (ARENA) is used to demonstrate building and executing the models. The second module covers the simulation life cycle analysis, and goes over issues like model verification and validation. It also looks into the statistical analysis of simulation model output. Topics covered during the course include: Fundamental modeling concepts (resources, entities, attributes etc.). Discrete event simulation: basic building blocks. Constructs in the simulation language to support simulation of real-life systems. Advanced model-building concepts. System life cycle analysis, Simulation validation and verification. Simulation as a decision-support tool. Supply-chain modeling. Manufacturing and Logistics case studies. Who Should Attend This course is designed for executives in manufacturing and logistics industries responsible for improving and optimizing the operations of their companies. The course is especially helpful for inventory control managers, manufacturing or process engineers or other support executives in the logistics, supply-chain management or production/manufacturing functions of their organizations. Course Lecturer Dr. Rajesh Piplani is the Director of the Center for Engineering and Technology Management in the school of Mechanical and Production Engineering at NTU. He obtained his M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University in 1990, and his Ph. D. from Purdue University in 1995. Dr. Piplani is listed in Marquis Who is Who in Science and Engineering in USA (1998-1999).
