Engineering Technology Course Syllabus Utica Community Schools Created by: Scott Spry Engineering Technology Syllabus Course Description Upon completion of this course the learner will develop and present a project that will incorporate the following disciplines: Safety, CAD, Engineering Research, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Computer Engineering. 1) Safety Standards a. Given information from the instructor the student will be able to identify various safety issues. b. Using activities the student will identify and correct safety issues. c. Given information from the instructor the student will demonstrate the proper use of all equipment in the lab area. 2) Computer Aided Design a. Using various examples the student will demonstrate knowledge in the reading of blueprints of a 2D drawing. b. Given information from the instructor the student will demonstrate the ability to create a 2D drawing of an object or part. c. Given information from the instructor the student will demonstrate the ability to dimension a 2D drawing of an object or part. 3) Engineering Research a. Using various resources conduct research on three different engineering fields. b. Create a presentation on one of the above engineering disciplines. c. Present the engineering discipline to the class. 4) Electrical Engineering a. Given information from the instructor the students will research the various fields associated with Electrical Engineering. b. Using information gathered from various sources the student will create a presentation on the field of Electrical Engineering. c. Given information from the instructor the students will collaborate on a project that highlights Electrical Engineering principles. 5) Mechanical Engineering a. Given information from the instructor the students will research the various fields associated with Mechanical Engineering. b. Using information gathered from various sources the student will create a presentation on the field of Mechanical Engineering. c. Given information from the instructor the students will collaborate on a project design of a mechanical system that highlights Mechanical Engineering principles. 6) Structural Engineering a. Given information from the instructor the students will research the various fields associated with Structural Engineering. b. Using information gathered from various sources the student will create a presentation on the field of Structural Engineering. c. Given information from the instructor the students will collaborate on the building of a structure that will then be tested to determine its Structural Engineering principles. 7) Aeronautical Engineering a. Given information from the instructor the students will research the various fields associated with Aeronautical Engineering. b. Using information gathered from various sources the student will create a presentation on the field of Aeronautical Engineering. c. Given information from the instructor the students will collaborate on the creation of a air powered vehicle that highlights Aeronautical Engineering principles. 8) Aerospace Engineering a. Given information from the instructor the students will research the various fields associated with Aerospace Engineering. b. Using information gathered from various sources the student will create a presentation on the field of Aerospace Engineering c. Given information from the instructor the students will collaborate on the creation of a rocket powered vehicle that is required to perform a given task. 9) Computer Engineering a. Given information from the instructor the students will research the various fields associated with Computer Engineering. b. Using information gathered from various sources the student will create a presentation on the field of Computer Engineering and the many different programming languages that exist. c. Given information from the instructor the students will collaborate on a project that incorporates a computer programming language and highlights the field Computer Engineering. 10) Final Year Project a. Given information from the instructor the students will conceptualize, propose, design and build an Engineering Project.
