Re: Important Information regarding the May 2012 Clinical Calculations Exam for fall 2012 semester,
exam schedule information, and ATI learning module access. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Dear Student,
Per the CNHS Nursing Student Handbook, students planning to enroll in a 400 level clinical course (NU
430, 435, 455) are required to take and successfully pass either the 400 level clinical calculations exam
before the beginning of your clinical courses each semester. All students are required to complete the
Clinical Calculations exam during the assigned time as indicated below.
Please find your assigned DATE and TIME based on the clinical course (s) you will be enrolling in for FALL
2012.
It is expected that students will attend their assigned session but if for a justifiable reason (work is not a
justifiable reason) you cannot make it please email Judith.walsh@umb.edu, let her know the
circumstances and she will determine if you can attend another session. All students must take this
exam by May 10th or their progression to the next clinical course will be at risk.
400 level information
Saturday, May 5th
NU 430/435 9 – 11 am
Exam begins at 9 am.
Saturday, May 5th
NU 455 12 – 2pm
Exam begins at 12 pm.

Optional Clinical Calculations Review Sessions for the 400 level exam will be held in the CCER on the
following days/times:
Tuesday, April 17th
2:30-4:30 pm
Wednesday, April 18th 11:30-1:30 pm
Wednesday, April 25th 11:30-1:30 pm
Students are expected to utilize tutorials and practice exam questions in the clinical calculations module
in ATI, the on-line learning system and/or the Clinical Calcs Packet (see attached) for exam preparation.
ATI Clinical Calculations modules to review:
• Calculating Oral Medications, Calculating Injectable Medications, Calculating Parental Medications
• Calculating Powdered Medications, Safe Dosage, Drug Administration, Case Studies
•
400 level students, please complete these important modules to prepare for clinical practice:




Calculating Critical Care Medications*
Calculating Dosages by Weight
Calculating Pediatric Critical Care Medications*
Calculating Pediatric Medications
* Although you should review the critical care med calculations for clinical, these types of questions will
not be included on your exam.
ATI access: If you have yet to register for ATI, please follow the attached directions to create a user ID.
In line with national standards for patient safety, the Passing Rate on the clinical calculations
competency exam is 100% accuracy for medication administration and safe nursing practice.
Failure to demonstrate competency (following two attempts at the exam) may result in an
administrative withdrawal from a clinical course.
Information on the date and time for THE MAKE UP EXAM for students who do not pass their initial
attempt will be provided on the exam day. Clinical placement information will be held pending
successful completion of this important component of clinical clearance. If you have further questions
