St Catherine’s Primary School Newsletter Called to Live, Learn and Love February 2013 Dear Parent/Carer, We have a very busy term ahead, with a wide range of opportunities for you to be involved in your child’s learning. Outdoor Learning We are delighted with the work recently undertaken within our playground and our Pupil Council and PTA have already started planning Phase 2 of the project. In the coming weeks classes will plant seeds which will bloom in time for our official opening in May. We want to thank our Parent Council for all their hard work and support within this project, especially for the purchase of our new Gazebo. We also want to thank Mr. Caddens who has given up his time and expertise to add flooring and a ramp and stairs to the Gazebo. Money raised from the Christmas Fayre was used to purchase additional equipment for the playground. Scottish Opera Congratulations go to Robyn Moynes of Primary 5 who is performing in the Scottish Opera Production of Werther at the Theatre Royal this month. Year of Faith Lenten Programme Children will have a number of opportunities throughout Lent to celebrate their faith. Classes will have the opportunity to attend morning Mass in St. Catherine’s Parish. Children from Primary 4-7 will visit the Oratory within All Saints Secondary for Stations of the Cross. We would be delighted if parents joined us at this time. Details of individual class times will follow. Our charity work will be continuous throughout Lent. The four main charities we will be supporting are SCIAF, Mission Matters Scotland, Let the Children Live and Mary’s Meals. We have set up a Charities Committee who will keep you updated throughout Lent. Parents’ Evening These will take place on Thursday, 7th March and Tuesday, 12th March 2013. A letter advising you of these dates was issued yesterday asking you to return indicating your preferred date. Children will bring their jotters home on Monday, 4th March, and should be returned on Tuesday, 5th March. Parent Zone A reminder that when the bell rings at 9.00 a.m. parents should move back into the Parent Zone area, this allows teachers the opportunity to quickly settle children and get the school day started. Dogs are not allowed in the school playground under any circumstances. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Primary 7 Blairvadach Trip 15th – 19th April 2013 A Parents Meeting will take place on 5th March in the school hall to outline this forthcoming trip. We have applied for a number of grants and have identified 2 main Fundraising Events to help subsidise the cost of the trip. Asda Robroyston are giving us a bag packing opportunity on 6th March and Primary 7 are undertaking an Enterprise Project to help raise funds through the selling of Boost Wallets. The Marketing Committee will provide more information about this project at the meeting.
