Looking back to Tuesday, February 23, 2010
-- FROM TUESDAY: HERB MAGEE BECOMES WINNINGEST COACH IN
NCAA HISTORY:
Philadelphia University coach Herb Magee has won his 903rd career game, moving past Hall
of Famer Bob Knight to become the winningest men's coach in NCAA history. The NCAA
record book recognizes Don Meyer of Northern State as the all-time wins leader with 922.
Some of Meyer's wins came at an NAIA school. All of Magee's (and all of Knight's) came at
NCAA-sanctioned universities. The 68-year-old Magee passed Knight with a 76-65 victory
over Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday night. Magee has won all 903 games over a 43-year
career with the tiny Division II Rams. Knight won 902 games and three national
championships in a 42-year career with Army, Indiana and Texas Tech. Magee led the
program to a national championship in 1970.

---NCAA SAYS MICHIGAN DID NOT COMPLY WITH PRACTICE TIME RULES:
The NCAA accused Michigan of failing to comply with practice time rules under coach Rich
Rodriguez, who admitted making "mistakes" but will be back for a third try at bringing
college football's winningest program back into the national title hunt. Incoming athletic
director David Brandon disclosed the NCAA conclusions Tuesday, but said there were no
surprises in the report. He expressed full support for his coach.
---JAYSON WILLIAMS SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON: Williams will be
eligible for parole in 18months. Williams, avoiding a retrial on a reckless manslaughter count
that deadlocked the jury at his 2004 trial, pleaded guilty last month to aggravated assault in

--Statement from Williams' manager, Akhtar Farzaie: "There is a sense of relief for Jayson
today after being able to address the court after eight years of silence. He is mentally and
emotionally prepared to serve his time. We are relieved that closure has come to this matter

St. Johns County Sheriff's deputies who were working on an off-duty basis but paid the

use of the Sunset Room, a 2,112-square foot room on the second floor of the clubhouse, but
