Introduction ZTE CDMA 1X card fits into a standard Type II PC Card slot (available on most notebook PCs) and functions as a wireless network card, a modem and a mobile phone. This card allows you to connect to the Internet, send and receive short messages, and make phone calls, without the need of a network cable or phone line. Back to contents 2. Safety Warnings To the owner Some electronic devices are susceptible to electromagnetic interference sent by ZTE CDMA 1X card if inadequately shielded, such as electronic system of vehicles. Please consult the device manufacturer before using the card if necessary. The operation of the card may interfere with medical devices like hearing aids and pacemakers. Please always keep the card more than 20 centimeters away from such medical devices when the card is turned on. Consult a physician or the manufacturer of the medical device before using the card. Be aware of the usage limitation when using the card at those places where there are explosive gases or explosive products being processed, such as oil warehouses or chemical factories, because even if your card is in standby mode, it can still transmit radio frequency (RF) energy. Therefore, turn off the card if required. Care for your card Protect the card from liquids, dust, and excessive heat. Optimal signal strength is usually obtained when the antenna is perpendicular to the card. The antenna should bend easily. Do not forcefully bend the antenna or plug the antenna in and out of the card frequently. ZTE shall not be held responsible for the loss due to user’s misoperation. The card should fit easily into your PC slot. Forcing the card into a slot may damage connector pins. If you want to clean your card, please use clean fabric that is a bit wet or static-free. Do not use harsh chemical cleaning solvents or strong detergents to clean it. Do not drop, knock or harshly treat it. Rough handling will break internal circuit boards. Safety and general use in vehicles Safety airbag, brake, speed control system and oil eject system shouldn’t be affected by wireless transmitting. If you do meet problems above, please contact your automobile provider. Please turn off your card when refueling your automobile, and the same to the place where duplex wireless equipments are banned. Aircraft safety Do not operate the card in any aircraft, whether the aircraft is on the ground or in flight. When operating, it can transmit signals that could interfere with various onboard systems. Back to contents 4. Features Note: When ZTE CDMA 1X card is starting up, the lamp is in yellow. After a few seconds, the lamp turns green and the Card is ready to work. To remove ZTE CDMA 1X card from your computer, press the button outside the slot, the card will automatically eject out. Do not pull the card out by the antenna. Back to contents 5. Install and Uninstall 5.1 System Requirements The ZTE CDMA 1X card can operate on: • Windows 98 • Windows 2000 • Windows Me • Windows XP To install the ZTE CDMA 1X card, the minimum requirements for the PC are as follows: CPU Pentium-II/233MHz Card Slots 1 Type II PCMCIA (PC Card) Slot Disk Drive CD-ROM (for installation only) Memory 64 MB Disk Space 30 MB Back to contents 5.2 Installation for Windows 2000 5.2.1 Install Note: Don’t insert the ZTE CDMA 1X card before installation. During installation, disregarding the system prompt, operate as the prompt of setup wizard. 1. Please find “autosetup.exe” first in ZTE CDMA 1X card CD, and double click the icon of autosetup.exe, then choose “English” when the picture is displayed in the screen. 2. When you see this window, please click “Next”. 3. Select the location where the program is to be installed, then click “Next”. 4. Select Start Menu folder, then click “Next”. 5. When you see this window, please click “Install”. 6. Please wait. 7. Please insert the ZTE CDMA 1X card. (If your card is in the slot, please reinsert the card) 8. Please wait for updating the driver. 9. You can see the window when the driver is installed successfully. Click “OK”. 10. Click “Finish” to close the last screen of the wizard. Now you can start the application for ZTE CDMA 1X card. Back to contents 5.2.2 Uninstall 1. Select Start Programs ZTE CDMA1X CARDUninstall ZTE CDMA1X CARD. You will be asked if you want to uninstall the card. Click “Yes”. 2. Please wait. 3. Click “OK” when you are notified that un-installation is complete. Back to contents 5.3 Installation for Windows XP 5.3.1 Install Note: Don’t insert the ZTE CDMA 1X card before installation. 1. Please find “autosetup.exe” first in ZTE CDMA 1X card CD, and double click the icon of autosetup.exe, then choose “English” when the picture displayed in the screen. 2. When you see this window, please click “Next”. 3. Select the location where the program is to be installed, then click “Next”. 4. Select Start Menu folder, then click “Next”. 5. When you see this window, please click “Install”. 6. Please wait. 7. Please insert the ZTE CDMA 1X card. (If your card is in the slot, please reinsert the card) 8. Please wait for updating the driver until this window appears. Click “OK”. 9. Click “Finish”. Now you can start the application for ZTE CDMA 1X card. Back to contents 5.3.2 Uninstall 1. Select Start -> Programs ZTE CDMA1X CARDUninstall ZTE CDMA1X CARD. You will be asked if you want to uninstall the card. Click “Yes”. 2. Please wait. 3. Click “OK” when you are notified that un-installation is complete. Back to contents 6. The Main Window and Icons You can launch the program by: Double click , the icon of application for ZTE CDMA 1X card in the desktop. Or selecting Start Programs ZTE CDMA1X CARD ZTE CDMA1X CARD. After initialization, the main window of the application will be displayed in the screen. There are icons in the top of the main window. That indicates: Connect/Disconnect Connection record Voice call Call history Write SMS Read SMS Phone Book Settings Help Back to contents 7. Connect/Disconnect Connect to network: 1. Click “connect/disconnect” icon in main window. 2. Click “connect” button. Disconnect: 1. Click “disconnect” button. Back to contents 8. Voice call Note: 1. Please confirm your earphone is connected with the ZTE CDMA1X card when you want to make a voice call. 2. You can activate or deactivate the supplement services (call forward, call waiting etc.) by dialing the number specified by service provider. Please contact the provider for more details. The dialing pad for the card is displayed when you click the “Voice call” icon. This performs the same functions as the dialing pad on a mobile phone. Make a call: 1. Plug the earphone in the ZTE CDMA 1X card if it is not plugged in the card. 2. Click “Voice Call” icon. 3. Enter the number you want to dial by either clicking the number buttons on the dial pad or typing the numbers on your keyboard. 4. Click button or press“Enter”key to make the call. Answer a call: 1. Plug the earphone in the ZTE CDMA 1X card if it is not plugged in the card. 2. Click button or press“Enter”key to answer the call. 3. Click button or press“ESC ”key to end the call. Call Waiting When there is a second incoming call while you have a call in progress, you can choose to receive or reject the second call. If you choose to receive it, you can switch between the two calls. Please apply to your service provider first to activate this function. 1. During a call, if there is a second incoming call, a popup window will remind you there is another incoming call. 2. If you want to receive the new call, click or press“Enter”key to receive it. At this time the first call will hold on. 3. If you want to resume the first call, just click “Switch call” icon. At this time the second call will hold on. 4. By clicking “Switch call” icon you can switch between the two calls. Three-way Calling This function enables you to set up a three-way conversation with two other persons. Please apply to your service provider first to activate this function. 1. When a call is in progress, you can click “Dial second call” icon, input another phone number in the popup window and then click “OK” to dial out the number. At this time the first call will hold on. 2. If the second call is not answered, you can click to resume the first call. 3. If the second call is answered, click “start conference” icon to start three-way talking. 4. In the three-way conversation, you can click “Hangup second call” icon to end the second call and return to the original two-way calling. Back to contents 9. Call History Call history maintains records of your outgoing, incoming and missed calls. You can select a desired number from the records to make a call, send messages or save it into the Phone Book. Back to contents 10.Send Short Messages To send SMS message: 1. Click “Write SMS” icon in the window. 2. Input the message on the left screen of the window. 3. Click “NEW” button to enter the recipients for the message by typing the phone numbers. Or click “Select” button to enter recipients for the message by selecting from the phone book. 4. You can enter multiple recipients to multi-cast short messages. 5. You can select “priority” and “valid period”. 6. Click “Send” button to send the message. Note: The message sent successful will be stored in the outbox. Back to contents 11.Read Short Messages Incoming messages are stored in the Inbox. Outgoing messages are stored in the Outbox. In the Inbox or Outbox, you can view, reply or transfer the messages, or save the message sender’s number into the Phone Book. Messages will be stored in ZTE CDMA1X card. You can copy them from ZTE CDMA1X card to PC by clicking “Copy” or “Copy all” button. 1. 2. 3. 4. Read SMS : Click “read SMS” icon in the window. Select the Inbox or Outbox in the drop-down menu. Click the desired message in the list on the right screen of the window. You can view the content of the message on the left screen of the window. Back to contents 12. Phone Book The Phone Book provides a place to store the phone numbers and e-mail addresses of people you contact. To open the Phone Book: 1. Click “phonebook” icon in the window, you’ll see the Phone Book entries list . To add an entry to the Phone Book: 1. Open the Phone Book. 2. Click “New” button in the window. 3. Enter the person’s name and phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses in the Contact detail’s window. 4. Click “OK” or press “Enter” key to save the entry. To dial a phone number in the Phone Book: 1. Select the entry in the Phone Book window. 2. Click “Call” button or press “Enter” key. To send a message in the Phone Book: 1. Select the entry in the Phone Book window. You can make multi selection of phone numbers in Phone Book to make group messaging. 2. Click “SMS” button. The Phone Book records can be stored in the PC or ZTE CDMA1X card. You can copy them from ZTE CDMA1X card to PC or from PC to ZTE CDMA1X card by clicking “Copy” or “Copy all” button. Back to contents 13.Settings Connection settings: You can set the network connection parameters. The settings are different in various networks. For example: In China Unicom, they are: 1. User: card 2. Password: card 3. Number: #777 Call forwarding: You can forward the incoming call to an appointed number. Select Enable to activate this function. You can make call forward to a desired number in different cases. Unconditional Busy No answer Connotative Back to contents 14. Trouble Shooting When properly installed, you can find the port “Compact Flash OX16CF950” and the modem “CDMA_1X Modem” in your computer’s device manager. If you can’t find the devices, uninstall the application and start the installation process again. Symptoms The window displays the message: “Can not open the com port.” No signal indicated When making a network connection, the message is displayed, “An authentication event has occurred” Possible causes The ZTE CDMA 1X card is not in the slot. Other application is using the ZTE CDMA 1X card. Such as “Hyper terminal”. Antenna is not plugged in the ZTE CDMA 1X card Out of the network service area Poor network signal User name or password is wrong. Your account does not have enough money. Network is busy or has problem Suggestions Close the application and Re-insert the ZTE CDMA 1X card, then run the application again. Close other applications. Then run the ZTE CDMA 1X card application. Plug the antenna in the ZTE CDMA 1X card Confirm it is in the CDMA network service area. Reorientate your antenna Correct the settings. You can get the information from your service provider. e.g. In China Unicom, they are: User: card Password: card Number: #777 Put money into your account or Contact your service provider. Try again after a few minutes. If the problems cannot be solved after the above handling, please Download the latest ZTE CDMA 1X card program at http://www.zteit.com and reinstall it.
