CDMA road broadening TextStart The CDMA industry had a great year in 2009: the road followed by the industry became broader and longer, and its future direction became clearer. China Telecom's rapidly growing 3G network showed the world the operator's commitment and determination to the CDMA field, and also solidified the direction for the CDMA industry in terms of 3G service development. The operator's new full-service model continues to exploit CDMA's advantages in 3G data services, bringing with it a rich harvest. In just one year, China Telecom attracted over 28 million new customers with its CDMA services, doubling its total subscriber base to an impressive 56.09 million. Partnering with Huawei, the operator launched China's first 2.1GHz EV-DO Rev.B network at the end of 2009, which it soon followed with a pre-commercial EV-DO Rev.B network in Guangzhou in January 2010. Accelerating EV-DO development is proven to increase the competitiveness of CDMA operators' 3G services, and in doing so bring in customers and boost profi ts. Incumbent CDMA operators in North America are powering towards LTE evolution, further broadening the journey the CDMA industry is taking. In early 2010, U.S. operators Leap Wireless and Cox Communications teamed up with Huawei and successfully demonstrated their LTE services, which instilled greater confidence in the industry by showcasing the technological viability of seamlessly evolving from CDMA to LTE. The Huawei SingleRAN@Broad solution provides a robust guarantee to CDMA networks' and even the industry's smooth evolution toward LTE. As CDMA continues to gather pace, operators in Indonesia, Nigeria and Poland have stepped up investment in network expansion projects and are committed to upgrading data services. Holland's KPN employed Huawei's CDMA solution for private networks in its innovative wireless meter reading service, and PTCL in Pakistan plans to release its DORB services. Th e terminal ecosystem for CDMA also experienced an unprecedented level of development in 2009, delivering a wealth of diversity and advances. All these contribute to the vitality and sustainability of the CDMA industry. By the end of 2009, 315 operators had deployed CDMA networks in 109 countries and regions, serving more than 500 million subscribers, which is predicted to jump to 600 million by 2013. As always, Huawei remains committed to the success of CDMA operators by not only expanding the reach of CDMA network, but also by broadening the journey the CDMA operators are taking.
