Apparently my comment last month on how good this year has been was the kiss of
death for this tournament. If I ever do that again, it won’t be till the end of the year!
While this was the biggest tournament we’ve had all year for participants (all 18members, 1-guest), it tied our lowest output with only 11-fish brought to the scales for a
total of 25.24 pounds. Of the six anglers bringing fish to the scales, Rex Huff was the
big winner while Stuart Greer’s single fat-one captured second and big bass for this
month and set the standard for bi-annual big bass. Dave (“3-Fish”) Leasure slid into the
money by 0.01 pound for third. Everyone made it back to the ramp/home without any
major physical or mechanical problems that I’m aware of so by my “trip” standards that
makes for a good day. Congratulations to all!
I didn’t hear from everyone, but I know 1/4th of the fish were caught on flukes and the 2fish that made it to my livewell were on bladed baits. I’m sure Dave’s hellbender
accounted for his fish.
The July meeting had 13-members in attendance with 2-working. Old business
included discussion on the fish-fry for the September two-day tournament at Powell
Park. Anthony Deckert was nominated as the fish-fry chairman. New business
included distributing the June tournament and bi-annul big bass checks and addition of
new member Jimmy Johnson. We also added two new members at the ramp on
tournament day; Randy Huff and Billy Manley. Welcome aboard to all the new
members!
From the comments I heard we probably ought to put the Harvey Creek Ramp on our
forever not go to again list unless they make some improvements to get our boats away
from the rocks and keep the ramp light in-service.
I’m looking forward to our night tournament next month. I found out that Roland Jr.
(Shawn) doesn’t, by his own admission, backlash near as much after dark! I’m equally
skilled at professional overruns daylight or dark.
It may be wise to get your reservation in at Powell Park if you plan on staying there for
the September two-day. The BASS regional will be finishing up with their top 50 on
Saturday and the second day of the Bass-In-Bucks championship will be held on
Sunday. I don’t think cabins will be a problem but just in case the # is (409) 584-2624.
