Internal: External: 3 Special Conditions Out of Hours Work: Some out of hours work may be required. Travel: Some intra/interstate travel and overnight absences may be required. Current car drivers license a necessity. Location: Initial appointment will be to Coober Pedy but travel to Oodnadatta and other community centres will be required. Other Conditions: 4 Close working relationships with programs, administration and managers. Establish and maintain community contacts and represent the AAC where requested at community meetings or on community committees. Required to participate in TAFE SA Performance Coaching Program. Appointment to this position will be subject to a satisfactory criminal history check. Flexitime: Working Part-time: Compressed Weeks: Job Share: Working at Home: Purchased Leave (48/52): Statement of Key Responsibilities/Duties Ensuring the provision of a AAC/TAFE SA promotion and course coordination service to local communities by: Promoting and representing AAC/TAFE SA in community networks; Ensuring facilities/resources meet delivery requirements including booking facilities as required in Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and other community centres as required; Promoting AAC/TAFE SA in the community by networking with representatives, networks, community bodies and local agencies as the AAC’s local advocate including organising and presenting information sessions on specific projects or programs. Contributing to an efficient and effective service to AAC/TAFE SA and the local community by: Liaising with Managers and Lecturers to provide them with advice on community training needs; Maintaining course lists of future community training needs; Providing confidential support to students and staff with personal, social, health and educational issues and have the capacity to refer to other educational and human service providers where appropriate; Providing a consultancy service to staff in relation to student behavior issues; Maintaining appropriate records and statistics; Responsibility for providing a professional mediation and conflict resolution advisory service concerning staff/student management issues in conjunction with Human Resources Consultants and assist with Aboriginal student/staff management issues. Working with Complete Personnel (Remote Jobs & Communities Program) by : Providing a support service to visiting lecturers, community members and staff; Providing regular updates to Line Manager on campus activities via fortnightly reports; Monitoring and reporting any issues to Line Manager including students’ nonattendance, cultural issues within programs and student grievances; Participating in workgroup meetings for AAC/TAFE SA within the region. Undertaking a student advocacy function that assist students with their educational experience through the provision of a professional and accessible service by: Providing induction and orientation of students in conjunction with teaching staff to enhance the wellbeing of students, and a broad range of intervention methodologies to enhance the capacity of students to be successful in a learning environment; Providing initial student support service through information and referrals; Organising reminders and transport options to facilitate optimum attendance at courses; Providing video conferencing, Moodle and Centra support to students where required by external programs. Supporting educators of Aboriginal students by: Initiating and developing networks with educators both AAC and Wider TAFE SA of Aboriginal students across TAFE SA; Negotiating, liaising and advocating on behalf of students and educators within the AAC & TAFE SA; Providing information and awareness of Aboriginal culture and assist educators to understand and meet Aboriginal needs. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, staff, colleagues and referral services. Ability to work with the local Aboriginal Communities of Coober Pedy and Oodnadatta. Experience Experience in working within a team environment to achieve team goals and contribute to ideas and suggestions. Experience in meeting the needs of students at risk, students with disabilities and students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Experience in working with education and training institutions, government bodies and service providers. Knowledge Knowledge of local Aboriginal Community. Applying workplace health and safety and workers compensation legislative requirements in business activities for which the position is responsible, whilst ensuring compliance to Agency workplace health and safety policies, procedures and processes including the identification, assessment and control of risks and evaluation of mitigation strategies to minimize the likelihood of injury and/or disease incorporating the agencies risk management framework.
