AD HOC CALL FOR APPLICATIONS INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL BLOCK GRANT: SHORT RESEARCH VISIT BY AN INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED SCIENTIST TO NMMU INTRODUCTION This, particular International Travel Block Grant: short research visit by an internationally recognised scientist to NMMU, will afford faculties the opportunity of stimulating research at NMMU via an internationally recognised researcher. It is further envisaged that these ad hoc research grants will allow a larger group of staff and students to be exposed to an internationally recognised researcher. PROCEDURE 1. The Department of Research Management (RM) will make an ad hoc call to faculties via the Chairpersons of Faculty RTI Committees, to submit proposals. 2. Faculty applications, supported by the Faculty RTI Committee (FRTI) and the Dean, should be submitted to RM by Monday, 12 October 2009. If more than one faculty application is submitted, applications should be indicated in order of priority. 3. All applications received by the closing date will be circulated to members of the Research Committee, with a recommendation from RM. 4. Funds will then be transferred to FRTI committees, who will be responsible for managing the funds in accordance with NMMU financial policies and rules. Funds allocated should be utilised before 1 June 2010. 5. FRTI’s must submit a report, one (1) month after the conclusion of the visit to RM. CRITERIA The main criteria to be considered is how the visit will impact positively on the development of research as it relates to NMMU, the faculty and individual researchers and students.
