International Business Short Course
“Integrated International Business & Cross Cultural Program”
Siam University and Burapha University
July 13 – August 7, 2009
COURSE INTRODUCTION:
The International Business short course “Integrated International Business & Cross
Cultural Program” (IIB & CCP) is established as a student exchange program conducted by the
Commission on Higher Education (CHE) as the UMAP member secretariat of Thailand. This course
is created and makes arrangement by the faculty of Business Administration, Siam University in
collaboration with the faculty of Management and Tourism, Burapha University
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The International Business Short Course in “Integrated International Business & Cross
Cultural Program (IIB & CCP)” offers students an introduction to the language and terminology of
international business and major international political and economic policies that affect modern
international businesses. Special attention is given to fundamental concepts of international
management, business law, finance, and marketing. The cultural, attitudinal, and behavioral
differences that affect international business are also examined.
In addition, students can learn the integration of economic, political, and business decisions
in Thailand’s and other Southeast Asian countries’ economy and the development of the current
economy.
The course is divided into two parts: coursework and field trip. With this system, students can
obtain a high level of understanding in the International Trade Arena.
COURSE GOAL:
This course will develop the students’ capability to obtain in depth understanding the International
Business Management (Integrated Cross Cultural).
COURSE PURPOSES:
1. Enhancing the students’ knowledge in areas of International Business Management
2. Equipping the students’ experience in Thai Business Enterprise as well as Thai Culture
3. Educating the Integrated Cross Cultural Business Management
CREDIT POINT: Three (3) academic credits are awarded upon successful completion of
the course.

Field Trip:
The students will study in areas of International Business Discipline such as
International Business Culture, International Trade and Policy and Global
Marketing.
The students will visit to some business sector factory , for example, Agro-Industry
company, Automotive Industry, Bank of Thailand and Stock Market as well as the
tourist attraction places, Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Budda (BANGKOK),
National Museum, Wax Museum (Nakornprathom)
SUBJECT CONTENTS:
Part I-- SIAM UNIVERSITY
Legal environment of Business
An introduction to the legal system within which business organizations operate, as well as ethical
considerations and social and political influences that affect such organizations by changing the legal
system.
Security Market & Financial Institution
This course will give students an overview of the capital market which is the market for securities, where
companies and the government can raise long-term funds. The capital market includes the stock market and
the bond market. This course will also provides an understanding of how financial market can be use as a
mechanism that will allows people to easily buy and sell financial securities such as stocks and bonds.
Healthcare Business
This class will focuses on such topics as access to care; cost containment; health benefit plans; health
economics, utilization review; disease management; information technology; medical technology. The
impact of these topics on the business of health care will be studied.
Agricultural and Food Industry
This course will allow students to understand status of agriculture in Thailand such as the major features of
important crops. The strategy of “From Farm to Table” will show how industry can operate in the present
and future situation particularly in the global context
Thailand is well-known as the kitchen of the world, in this course will also introduce the major export
agricultural products, and how they operate.
Automotive Industry
The effects of doing business globally on the automotive industry will be addressed, including the basics of
international trade as they affect the industry, impact on manufacturers and supply chain partners, increase
awareness of cultural differences among industry stakeholders, and raise the implications of global business
for local operations.
SME in Thailand
SME (Small- Medium Sized Enterprise) plays a major role in Thailand. Thai government believes that it can
generate business sustainable growth. The course will guide an importance of SME role in Thai economy
which links to the government policy on this issue.

Royal Project and Sufficiency Economy Philosophy
The sufficiency economy is initiated by King Bhumiphol. His Majesty wishes Thai people to be self
dependent. Thailand has to strongly develop in line with other countries so this theory does not deteriorate
the country development. The course will make you understand His Majesty’s theory.
SUBJECT CONTENTS: Part II-- BURAPHA UNIVERSITY
International Business Culture
Building your International Business through cultural awareness offers an excellent introduction to the
differences in attitudes, values, protocol, rituals, traditions, communication styles and other characteristics
those commonly separate cultures. Understanding cultural differences and building relationships are critical
in today's global market place. This course describes how to develop cultural awareness and avoid cultural
faux pas.
International Trade and Policy
A Short Course in International Economics features a series of descriptive essays on each of the major topics
of international economics, including balance of trade, trade agreements, foreign exchange, currency
devaluation vs. appreciation, free trade vs. protectionism, foreign investment, tariff and non-tariff barriers to
trade, politics vs. economics, government intervention in free markets, and major economic systems.
Global Marketing
Transform your export operation into a market-driven, profit-making enterprise by learning and employing
international marketing methods and strategies used by successful companies worldwide. The short Course
also offers the students for practical advice from a seasoned professional about how to succeed in
international marketing, comprehensive coverage of all key issues in international marketing and contains
pragmatic information on negotiating tactics and strategies for both individuals and teams.
International Logistics and Supply Chain
The short course provides an understanding of how cargo is moved around the world, over viewing the
theory and practice of global supply chain management and discussing the myth of supply chain
management and offering questions on the role of information systems.
International Contracts
As international trade has grown, so too has the need to more formally define the obligations of each party to
a transaction. Written contracts provide this framework and are becoming more and more common
worldwide, replacing verbal "understandings." This book covers the underlying need for and use of contracts
in international business. It provides specific information about writing basic and advanced contract
provisions, the use of attorneys, enforcement. dispute resolution, arbitration and litigation.
International Tourism Management
Companies today confront an increasing array of choices of markets, of locations for value adding activities,
and of modes of crossing borders. This course focuses on the international dimensions of strategy and
organization, and provides a framework for formulating strategies in an increasingly complex world
economy, and for making those strategies work effectively.
International Negotiation
Many business people are experts concerning their product or service; few take the time to learn basic
negotiation skills. This course provides pragmatic, no holds-barred information and advice on how to

negotiate international purchase, sale, investment and joint venture deals. International Business Negotiating
features point-by-point coverage of key negotiating topics, including: selection of the chief negotiator and
individual team members, sizing up your counterpart(s), individual and team negotiating styles, how to
counter individual and team strategies, legal and illegal tactics, profiles of common negotiating tactics of 35
countries, and a glossary of negotiating terms.
International Entrepreneur Trade
International trade has always held great opportunity for the entrepreneur with global vision. The business of
international trade, however, also requires that the entrepreneur match his or her vision with solid skills for
concluding transactions successfully. This course provides describing how entrepreneurs succeed in
international trade by combining opportunity with solid skills.
International Payment
The course provides the students four primary payment methods: documentary letters of credit, documentary
collections, pre-payment and credit transactions. Step by step instructions, accompanied by skillfully
designed illustrations, are provided for both standard and special letters of credit, including revocable and
irrevocable, confirmed and unconfirmed, back-to-back, deferred payment (usance), red clause, revolving,
standby and transferable types. This course introduces each party to each transaction, contains lists of what
can go wrong and provides solutions for common problems.
