culturally and linguistically diverse public school serving pre-kindergarten
through second grade students. This work was recognized as the Best Dissertation
Study by the Bilingual Research Special Interest Group of the American
Educational Research Association.

scale is being used in Georgia, Texas, Florida, and Colorado school districts with
high concentrations of Hispanic Bilingual Students. Continued work is being done
with this scale with the development of a computer-scoring program and with
revisions for use with PK levels. ($2,500 of federal grant funds were used for this

Elected program chair for the Bilingual Special Interest Group (SIG), American
Educational Research Association, 1998-1999. As a program chair, I was
responsible for scheduling paper presentations, symposia, round tables, and poster
sessions for 60 bilingual research studies. The Bilingual Education Research SIG
has over 150 members. All represent the research institutions in higher education.
In addition to scheduling all the activities, including invited speakers, I attended
other research presentations. I also attended organizational meetings scheduled by
the AERA executive board related to organizational issues (SIGS and Divisions).

Elected chair for the Research & Program Evaluation SIG, National Association
Bilingual Education, 1998-1999. As a newly elected chair, I was responsible in
the program of bilingual research for The National Association of Bilingual
Education. I was responsible programming three major presentations. The NABE
annual meeting took place in Denver, CO with the participation of national
researchers in the field of bilingual education. More than 50 professional
organizations represent the Research and Program Evaluation SIG. It is a national
and international annual conference. We sponsored a new Scholars Luncheon that
was very successful. I was responsible for securing 20 scholars from across the
nation to participate in this session.

Assistant Department Head for Diversity Initiatives, Educational Curriculum and
Instruction Department Department. As an Assistant Department Head for
Diversity Initiatives, I represented the department in several meetings addressing
issues in the areas of gender, equity, ethnicity, race, and language. I wrote several
endowment proposals for promoting diversity in the department. My doctoral
bilingual fellowship grant involved 10 doctoral students from different programs
