HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP!
Villa Hills, Crescent Springs and Lakeside Park have officially “adopted” 3 batteries of
1-320th Field Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, whose home base
is at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Each battery has approximately 110 soldiers in the unit.
The entire “Top Gun” battalion (over 400 soldiers) was deployed in June to Afghanistan
and is the fourth deployment for many of our “Top Gun” soldiers.

There are three great ways to Support our “Adopted Unit”, and perhaps
you may even consider more than one!

The Adopt a Unit committee will pack and ship all contributed items approximately once a month.
2) Personal Messages of Support:
Another great way to help boost the morale of our troops is to visit the America
Supporting Americans website and post a personal message of support to the
troops. Go to the www.asa-usa.org website and the “Sound Off! Page” to write
your message.
3) A Cash Donation:
Cash donations are also accepted to purchase any items not contributed, and to
help pay for postage and shipping expenses. Your contributions are tax
deductible. You can contribute by sending a check payable to:

WHAT IS THE “AMERICA SUPPORTING AMERICANS” EFFORT ??
The City of Villa Hills is participating in this program which is sponsored by the
“America Supporting Americans”, ASA, (www.asa-usa.org), an organization
that was begun in 1967 by Ms. Linda Patterson in San Mateo, California when
she persuaded her community to “adopt” her brother’s unit in Vietnam as a way
to show concern and support for soldiers fighting an unpopular war, especially for
those soldiers who received no mail or letters from back home. Her brother,
Joe Artavia, was killed in Vietnam three weeks after this “adoption” as he was trying
to rescue a fellow soldier. Ms. Patterson visited Northern Kentucky on
February 7th, 2005, to thank everyone for the outstanding support from Kentucky cities.
especially in Northern Kentucky, for our troops. She spoke of what most of us
already knew about our communities….. “ There’s a lot of patriotism here ! ”
Villa Hills, Crescent Springs, Lakeside Park and Erlanger are referred to as
“The Magnificent Four”.
This is a great way for your family, neighborhood, school, church, civic group,
business, or other association, to show their support for America’s finest!
