“Operation Top Fun for the Top Guns”
An Evening of Comedy Benefiting the 1-320th field Artillery Regiment’s Homecoming Ball
Sponsored by the cities of Crescent Springs and Villa Hills ASA Adopt-A-Unit Committee
Crescent Springs/Villa Hills, Kentucky — Event Date: Saturday, May 21, 2011
The American Supporting American (“ASA”) Adopt-A-Unit Committee of Crescent Springs and
Villa Hills is sponsoring “Operation Top Fun for the Top Guns,” an evening of comedy benefiting the 1-320th
Field Artillery Regiment’s Homecoming Ball (which will be held in July, 2011). This show is set to take
place on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Crescent Springs/Villa Hills Fire House (777
Overlook Drive, Crescent Springs, KY).
Soldiers from the ASA Adopt-A-Unit are completing their fourth tour of duty, this time in
Afghanistan. It is a custom that when soldiers return from a tour of duty, a Homecoming Ball is held.
However, all too often many of soldiers have to miss this celebration and morale-building event because of
the expense.
Crescent Springs and Villa Hills (as well as the ASA Adopt-A-Unit committees in Lakeside Park and
Erlanger) feel that ALL of their 101st Airborne “Top Gun” soldiers should be able to attend the Homecoming
Ball without expense. And so they have committed themselves to raising $16,000 for the 500 soldiers of the
Battalion to do just that. Many fundraisers have already taken place. The soldiers are currently arriving
home and some of the soldiers from the 1-320th will be in town on May 20th and 21st. They will be special
guests at “Operation Top Fun for the Top Guns.”

Julie Schuler and Jane Terrell are co-liaisons of the Villa Hills ASA Adopt-A-Unit committee.
According to Schuler, “If we reach our goal, we will be able to pay the admission for every single soldier of
the 101st Airborne Battalion based in Fort Campbell, Kentucky to attend. Our country is deeply indebted to
our military soldiers, true leaders of men and women, who are willing to put their lives on the line each and
every day to protect our fundamental right of freedom.”
Jane Terrell added, “Our soldiers have spent another long year away from home and family. They do
this voluntarily, and I am so grateful. Helping to pay for their Homecoming Ball seems inadequate compared
to the sacrifices they have made, but it’s our small way of saying ‘thank you’ for keeping us safe.”
The Crescent Springs/Villa Hills Fire and EMS Department has donated the use of the Fire House for
the show.
John Lomax, Anchor of Good Morning Cincinnati (WKRC-TV), will be the MC of the show
featuring local comedians: Loraine Braun, Tim Collins, Thomas Cox, Dave Hyden and Kim Sherwood. All
are donating their time and are excited about this event.
Lomax said, “There’s nothing like humor to connect us. This should be a great time to laugh and be
with friends.”
Loraine Braun, Villa Hills, resident and one of the comedians performing at this show commented,
“Performing at benefits are always a fun way to help organizations raise money, but this one is very special
to me. I am in awe of our ASA Adopt-A-Unit Committee’s boundless enthusiasm and efforts to support our
adopted Unit. We really want a big turnout for this event. Not only to raise money, but to have a fun evening
together and personally welcome home and thank those members of our Adopt-A-Unit who will be our
special guests at the show.”
Tim Collins, another comic scheduled to perform on the 21st said, “As a comedian and a veteran, I am
thrilled and honored to be included in “Operation Top Fun for the Top Guns”. I’ve performed at numerous
comedy charity events, but have honestly never been so excited about a show. Our troops and their families
do so much for our nation every day and are so deserving of our support. And, after all, everyone needs a
good laugh! So, I’LL bring the “funny” and YOU bring the “money”! OK. I’ll bring some of that too!”

Comedian Thomas Cox added, “My father served in the Marines for 27 years and did two tours in
Viet Nam. My son is serving in the Marines, with one tour in Afghanistan. Now it’s my turn to serve the
military with some laughs!”
The show will be PG-Clean, however, the event is for ages 18 and up.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling Jane Terrell (859) 341-2431, Julie Schuler (859) 3317116 or Loraine Braun (859) 341-9187. Those wanting to attend are strongly urged to purchase their tickets
in advance. There will also be cash bar, snacks and raffles.
