MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR UC TRANSFER STUDENTS:
1. Complete 60 semester units of transferable college credit (course numbered 1-99) with a GPA of at least 2.4.
2. Complete the following course pattern, earning a grade of “C” or better in each course:
A: two transferable courses in English composition: ENGL 1, AND ENGL 2, 2H, 4, 4H, or PHIL 25.
B: one transferable course in math concepts & quantitative reasoning: Math 21, 70, 75, 76, 77, 80, 81, BUS 20, SSCI 25
C: four transferable courses (3 units or more) chosen from at least two of the following subject areas:
a) arts & humanities; b) social & behavioral sciences; c) physical & biological sciences
Completion of the IGETC will satisfy the course pattern requirement for the minimum admission requirements listed above (#2). The
IGETC is most advantageous for transfers who have not yet decided on a major or a campus. Once a student has identified a major, it
is important for the student to work toward fulfilling any required preparatory courses, particularly in professional or “high unit”
majors that select applicants on the basis of satisfaction of lower division major requirements. Students pursuing these types of
programs should note that it is more important to complete the required preparatory courses than it is to complete the IGETC.
In general, it is not advisable for transfer students preparing for engineering majors (at any campus) to use the IGETC. Students
entering “high unit” majors, such as those in the sciences, can follow the IGETC at some UC campuses (see IGETC Exceptions
below), but must be careful to complete any needed lower division major preparation. For example, majors in the sciences not only
have specific science prerequisites, but also have substantial mathematics requirements. Students pursuing these types of programs
should use the GE-Breadth requirements for the specific major and campus of their choice and complete the Minimum Admission
Requirements listed above (see counselor for course selection).
IGETC CERTIFICATION:
“Certification” means that College of the Sequoias has verified that a student has completed the lower division general education
requirements for the University of California. Certification is important because without it students will be held to the general
education requirements specific to the UC campus to which the student transfers. Courses from other colleges and universities may be
considered for certification through a process called “pass along certification”: 1) courses taken at other California Community
Colleges will be certified in the subject areas (AREA 1 – 6) approved by the institution where the courses were taken, and 2) courses
taken at other regionally accredited colleges and universities will be certified only if the course is determined to be equivalent to a
course in College of the Sequoias’ IGETC Certification Pattern. Courses deemed equivalent would be certified in the subject areas in
which the equivalent College of the Sequoias’ courses has been approved. The following Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations
may also be included in the IGETC Certification.
