January 1, 2006 COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to provide an overview of human development. A broad range of theoretical and applied topics including the areas of cognitive, emotional, moral, physical, and social development from birth through adulthood will be covered. COURSE/ DEVELOPMENTAL OBJECTIVES The student will: Acquire an appreciation of the multiple processes which play a role in ongoing development throughout one’s lifetime. Acquire an awareness of specific milestones occurring across the lifespan. Furthermore, a general understanding of what is age appropriate across different areas of functioning and how different abilities develop over a lifetime will be stressed. Become aware of certain conditions that illustrate impaired developmental functioning COURSE/INSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVES This course is intended to introduce students to developmental processes across the lifespan. Both typical and aberrant events will be discussed in depth.
