Invention:

Banksy in May 2010

It was on a partial wall, with rubble all around and trees in the background.

This was meant to be seen by the people of Detroit, primarily corporations.

Meant to be viewed in the location where it is--showing all of the surroundings

It is meant to make people aware of the dangers of industrialization. It is meant to bring the world back to thinking more about nature.

To me it shows how parts of our city needs to be rebuilt. The industrial factors need to decrease and more natural factors need to increase.

When you think of Detroit, do you think of big buildings full of graffiti in a dangerous city? Many people see Detroit as a place that is for gangs and thugs .

Banksy, a famous graffiti artist sees it as just another place to spread the word about different problems in society today.

Banksy said, “Graffiti is one of the few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don't come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make someone smile while they're having a piss.” This quote, to me, says that we do not have to find a cure to all of the world's problems, but we should take time and enjoy life . In this photo, Banksy is suggesting that industrialism has made damages to the society and nature. Develop thesis statement more, introduction is good though.

This graffiti painting, which was done in Detroit, is a powerful statement that Banksy is trying to use to show people the harmful effects of industrialism .

It is located on half a wall that use to be part of a manufacturing building. The area has old cinder blocks that were from the building laying in piles on the ground. It also is an area filled with trash and another run down building behind it .

This shows that it was in a place that, at one point in time, was used often, but is now just another run down part of Detroit.

Many artists in current time are trying to promote keeping the environment cleaner and rebuilding that old, half torn down building in major cities. Banksy wants people to help make a change to the city .

In this graffiti painting he has a small boy saying, "I remember when all this was trees." I believe Banksy wants the people of the cities to focus more on the nature of the world rather than all of the industrialization that is going on .

Good examples of exigency, maybe talk about other trends of this topic, how other people approach this compared to Bansky?

Banksy is making a claim that there needs to be more of the nature aspect to life rather than just the industry aspect .

He is making this bold statement by using the phrase "I remember when all this was trees" written on half of a wall of an old building . He wants the world to know that there is an issue of having too much reliance on industrialization when we could have a whole new outlook by slowing down and sitting by a tree for a while.

This photo has gains creditability based off Banksy himself. He is one of the most popular graffiti artists in the world. All of his artwork is similar. It all has a similar paint look to it and it almost always has to do with something big that has to do with society .

I furthermore believe this picture of the graffiti being in Detroit build upon Banksy's ethos alone. It means

Banksy, who is European, has made it around the world to show off his work .

He has strengthened his credibility alone just by putting his work all around. Body paragraphs could go into more detail about the proofs of logos, pathos and ethos, perhaps.

The Banksy photo can create a strong emotional response to some. The older people in society that once saw Detroit when it had more trees and less industry might find it bring an emotional response, whether it is positive or negative, about how the city has changed so much.

This is also has to do a lot with imagery .

This type of graffiti can also bring about a positive or negative emotional response in the younger generations that live in Detroit now. Many want the

"image" of Detroit to be better to those who are not very familiar with the city. One way to fix that would be fixing up the old, rundown, and abandon manufacturing buildings or houses.

This photo could speak to the larger issue of how industrialism and technology has somewhat taken over everyone's lives. Changing from more of a "farming" nation to one made of manufacturing companies and other incorporations. Banksy could be saying that we, as a nation,

Rachael Millon

ENG 1020 need to get back to the basics of life .

Instead of playing video games and staying inside all day dreaming of a way to "cure poverty" we could be outside, helping our country. Not only could it depict the reliance on industrialization and technology taking over, it could be a way for Banksy to express the issue of not having enough trees and open nature that could allow animals in inhabit.

Graffiti has been around for many years. In the rest of this paper, I will discuss th e affects graffiti can have on a person. I will also analyze and talk about how Banksy's graffiti can change the world slowly. I will then sum up the paper by combining all of the items talked about.

In the background of this picture, you can see very green treetops .

I feel as though Banksy had chosen the area he placed the graffiti on purpose. He wanted people to see the whole setting of the art work, not just what was painted where .

The trees don't seem that far off in the distance so, to me, to looks as though change is not far off.

This change is close and within reaching distance if we, as a society, just tried a little more. I really like the purple part I highlighted. :] I think this paragraph fits in best toward the beginning when you are introducing his work. Perhaps in the intro to the paper, you could give a bit more background information on the artist. It somewhat jumps straight into it with out sufficient rhetorical analysis. There are also some small grammatical/typo erors. But, Im sure after you read it before the final draft is done, you’ll catch

‘em! Is there a name for this specific piece? I’ve never heard of the artist before! I’ll have to look him up. You’re paper has given me incentive to research him. Great job, overall for the first draft! Hope my notes help some! -Angela
