Martin earned a PhD in biology at UCLA, did postdoctoral research at University of Washington, is a Research Associate at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and is Professor of Biology at Pepperdine University. With over forty peer-reviewed publications, she has co-edited four books and symposium volumes. Her Grunion Greeter volunteer citizen scientists won ASBPA’s “Environmental Partnership Award” and American Fisheries Society’s “Conservation Achievement Award.” She cofounded the Beach Ecology Coalition with beach managers, lifeguards, scientists, environmentalists, aquariums, regulatory agencies, and surfers, to develop best management protocols balancing conservation of natural resources with human recreation.
