Adopt-An-Element
Requirements:
1) Complete an Adopt an Element information sheet. (35% of grade)
You may use a variety of reference sources. Possible ideas are encyclopedias (book
or CD Rom), science encyclopedias, science catalogs, magazines, and/or Internet sites*.
Information sheets must be neat, written in black ink, and contain all the information requested.
2) Create a poster for your element. (35% of grade)
The poster must include the element’s
name, symbol, atomic number,
atomic mass, electron configuration or
Bohr model, cost, and an advertising slogan
that describes one or more of its important
uses. Posters must be neat, colorful, and
contain all the information on the example.
You may add pictures that relate to your
element. The poster on the right is an
example of how your poster should be
formatted. Your poster may include
additional graphics or appropriate
decorations.
3) Audio Element (15% of grade)
Write a script that creatively explains the
basic information about your element. This
may be in the form of a poem, rap, radio
commercial, etc. This script should include
some of the information from your poster
as well as some additional historical
information. (date discovered method of
discovery, summary of uses, ..etc)
REMEMBER you will record your element
bio for our website. It will be linked from
your photo, so the world will know who is
responsible for the poster and recording.
4) Be Creative, Prepared, and On
Task (15% of Grade)
Make sure you bring this packet to
class everyday. On the scheduled project work days bring any art supplies (colored pencils,
scissors, glue sticks, etc), pictures, examples of element (if appropriate for school). You will
have one research day in the computer lab. I will also have some books from the library for you
to use during the workdays.
