BTEC Performing Arts (Dance) Examination board & syllabus: Edexcel – BTEC National Performing Arts (Dance) Minimum Entry Requirements: GCSE Dance Grade C Course Outline: The BTEC Dance Award is aimed at students who are enthusiastic about dance and are committed to developing their technical and creative skills. The course will give you the opportunity to study a range of different dance styles including jazz, contemporary dance, physical theatre and social dance styles. Throughout the course you will participate in a wide range of projects and performances which will help to broaden your understanding of the world of dance and prepare you for full time dance training. Year 1 Units - Certificate Dance Performance Dance Appreciation Choreographing Dance Year 2 Units - Subsidiary Diploma Performing to an Audience The Health Performer Jazz Dance Assessment: Assessments will be based on coursework assignments and performances. Assignments range from practical performances, presentations, workshop demonstrations, written analysis and logbooks. The course is physically demanding therefore you must be committed to improving your fitness and conditioning levels. If you successfully complete the course you are awarded a BTEC National Award in Performing Arts: Dance. This is the equivalent of one A Level. Equipment required: Suitable dance clothing e.g. leggings, leotard, t-shirt, Jazz shoes, ballet shoes. Independent Study Tips: Attend dance classes outside of school to develop dance technique and choreographic skills. Visit the theatre to watch dance works in a range of genres to increase dance appreciation.
