MAKE-UP WORK
For each excused absence or medical-excuse day, you have three options for making up
work:
1) Nutrition Log
 This nutrition log should include:
i. What you ate for 2 whole days
ii. The amount of exercise you did
iii. Your thoughts on your eating habits and exercise regimen. (Could it
have been better? How? Etc.) This should be no less than six
sentences.
2) One 2-page paper on any sport
 This paper should:
i.
be two pages, double-spaced, typed using a 12-font
ii.
include history of sport, rules, strategies, etc.
iii.
also include an accurate bibliography (attach any references
you got off of the internet)
3) Physical make-up
 I will dedicate one day in class to the track. Every two laps completed will
equal one day of makeup work. The makeup day will be near the end of
the quarter and will be announced in class.
Each of these options counts for ONE absence. You may only make up five days with
written work. All other make-ups must be done physically due to the fact this is
Physical Education. If your absences/medical days are not made up, your grade will
suffer. Even if a parent/guardian clears the absence/medical, you were still not able to
participate and must make up the day to avoid serious damage to your grade.

Assignment: Ask your PE teacher for a PE equipment ordering catalogue. Now think of a unit we have
already completed this year. It could be any unit: softball, soccer, flag football, dancing, hockey, etc.
Pretend SLHS does not have any equipment for the unit you chose. Your job is to order all of the
equipment necessary for a 3-week unit. Assume each class has 45 students.

4. Now look at the cost for each item in the PE catalogue. Write down the item, the item’s cost, and then
the total cost for that item. Do this for each item needed.
Example- tennis rackets: $19.95 each: total cost $19.95 x 50 = $997.50
5. Add all of the cost together and determine how much it would cost to conduct this PE unit here at
SLHS.
Example: 997.50 + 112.35 + 12.95 + 168.30 + 221.00 + 22.65 = 18.40 + 88.50 =_________

Directions: Throughout history (and the present), there have been athletes who have
used the world of sports to demonstrate their remarkable abilities, character, work
ethic and desire. It is possible to gain inspiration from such stories. Your assignment will
be to seek out one of these athletes and learn as much as you can about them. Go to the
library (or research online) to find information about athletes that have played an
amateur or professional sport. Read about their story. Write an essay about that
athlete. Be sure to include the following:
1. Where did the athlete grow up and what was it like in his/her life while they were
young?
2. Why did the athlete decide to be involved in sports?
3. What were the various levels of competition that the athlete participated in?
4. Why was this athlete successful?
5. What can you learn from the athlete that might be helpful in your life?
