T’ai Chi Chih
T’ai Chi Chih – serenity in the midst of activity – is a series of 19 movements and one pose which were originated by
Justin Stone. Mr. Stone taught T’ai Chi Ch’uan for many years before developing a new technique which he called T’ai
Chi Chih. T’ai Chi Chih is simple and easy to learn with benefits usually beginning from the first class. The gentle
movements emphasize a flowing continuity and strongly stimulate the flow and balance of Chi or the “vital force” in the
body.
Benefits of regular T’ai Chi Chih practice can include stress reduction, weight and blood pressure control, increased
energy and a greater enthusiasm for life. As the practitioner becomes relaxed a new understanding and perspective is
formed, creative energy flows more freely and greater joy in everyday life becomes apparent.

Mission Statement
“To create, provide and promote essential quality of life services and programs to empower the individual and
enrich the well-being of the community and our visitors.”
How to Watch a Good Program Die
Nothing kills a recreation program faster than residents who wait until the last minute to register. There is a point when a
program must be cancelled or modified if there is insufficient registration. All programs require a high level of coordination
often including facility scheduling, staffing, volunteer recruitment and purchasing of supplies.
Photo Policy
Participants permit the taking of photos and videos of themselves and their children during Parks, Recreation and
Community Services Department activities, programs, and special events for publication and use as the department
deems necessary.
Volunteers
Many of our programs depend on volunteer help. If you wish to put your expertise to use in a program or would like to find
out what volunteer opportunities are available, please call us at 891-5015.
Sponsorship
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has many opportunities for sponsorships. We offer only
first-class, quality programs and special events. If you are interested in how we can help you reach your customers and
promote your business, contact Connie Peterson at 891-5015.
Senior Services
The Meadowlark
Senior Center (MSC)
The mission of MSC is to promote positive aging. To achieve that goal, MSC provides opportunities for adults 55 and
over to participate in a variety of programs, trips, and special events. There is no charge to join MSC. The monthly MSC
newsletter, the “Meadowlark Notes” is available by mail for $8 per year. The newsletter is also available online at no
charge at www.ci.rio-rancho.nm.us.
The Sandoval County Senior Program Rio Rancho Meal Site is also located at MSC and provides nutritious lunches 5
days a week. Meals are available for those 60 and over for a contribution of $1.50. Home delivered meals for the
homebound are also available.
Rio Transit
Housed at MSC, Rio Transit is a door-to-door transportation system for adults 55 years of age and older and for the
disabled18 years of age and older. The Rio Transit Program serves Rio Rancho residents only. For a nominal fee, Rio
Transit provides transportation to any destination within Rio Rancho. Rio Transit also services Albuquerque, the town of
Bernalillo and Corrales for medical appointments. Rides are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations
should be made one week in advance, but no later than 48 hours prior to the appointment. Reservations at other times
are filled on a space available basis. For more information about Rio Transit or for reservations, call 994-1608.
Registration Information
Registration is required for MSC programs that have a fee and/or limited space. Registration is on the first Thursday of
each month in the Meadowlark Senior Center dining room. After registration you may also register for MSC classes at the
Front Desk from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. This can be done either in person or by phone, as long as space is
available. For more information about programs or registration, contact or visit the Senior Center at 4330 Meadowlark
Lane SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124, 891-5018.
Refund Policy
In general, MSC has a “no refund” policy. If a refund is requested prior to the beginning of a class, activity, program or trip
and there are individuals willing to take the space of the person requesting the refund, then a refund may be made.
Photo Policy
Please be informed that from time to time, staff will be taking photos and videos for a variety of publications. By
participating in classes, activities, clubs, trips and other programs with the Senior Services Division, you are agreeing to
permit photos and videos to be taken.
Sponsorships
MSC seeks sponsorships for all of its activities. If you are interested in learning about ways in which you can support the
activities of the Senior Center, please contact Lorrie Welby at 891-5018.
Volunteers
Volunteers are our most precious resource. Many of our programs would not be possible without the support of
volunteers. To learn more about how you can use your skills and experience to benefit MSC, please contact Liz Smyth at
891-5018.
Volunteer Opportunities
The MSC Volunteer Program promotes the skills and talents of people of all ages. Volunteers serve as leaders and
teachers as well as participating in the daily operations of the Center. Some of the positions in which volunteers are
needed are:
Class Instructors: Lead and instruct students in such areas as languages, gardening, computers, arts and crafts, health
and wellness and more.
Volunteer Van Drivers: Transport MSC members in 14-passenger vans on outings. Drivers enjoy benefits such as free
entrance to events and lunch or dinner reimbursement on certain trips.
Meal Site Assistance: Includes a variety of tasks associated with the meal program.
Please contact Liz Smyth at 891-5018 for more information about these and other volunteer opportunities.
