Students must bring all pertinent texts to class. I may give unannounced quizzes. Course Goals: At the outcome of this course, students will be able to *Determine the appropriate response and format for a variety of communications situations. *Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using clear, concise, correct expression. *Continue to develop their effective communications and critical thinking skills. Writing Assignments--Students will plan, draft, workshop, and rewrite three papers and a research project and attend personal writing conferences. All final drafts must be typed, double spaced, and follow MLA format All pages must be numbered with student’s name in upper right-hand corner All final papers must use proper citation format All final papers must be submitted in a folder along with ALL preliminary work INCLUDING COMPUTER DRAFTS and handwritten planning. Papers will lose one letter grade for each class day that they are late. No paper will be accepted unless ALL of the above guidelines are met. Class Participation Assignments--Students will participate in small group discussions and oral presentations. All students must attend ALL small group discussions All students must participate in class oral reports. Class Policies--Students will be responsible for regular class attendance and for prompt, courteous communication with me. Students are expected to attend ALL classes: 3 unexcused absences will lower final grade; six or more may result in failing the class. For excused absences and make-ups, please provide documentation. If you miss class, you must contact me or one of your classmates to find out what you have missed. You will be responsible for being prepared for class when you return. Being unprepared for class counts as an unexcused absence. Students must practice academic honesty. I will enforce the penalties set up by the University’s policy.
