This week I am preparing for my semi-annual meeting with my Business
Advisory committee. This is an opportunity to talk to other business
professionals about what we are doing and to get advice on how we can
improve services, thoughts on new ideas/ventures, and just general day to
day business needs.
When we started this a couple of years ago, I really wasn’t sure about
talking about the “business” with people who are not “in the business”.
Not only that, there was some work involved in the preparation for the
meeting, so I wasn’t crazy about devoting staff time to this process.
Sometimes we have to admit when we are wrong and I was. This meeting and committee has become invaluable to me. Sitting in a room and
spending a few uninterrupted hours with business professionals who are
willing to give advice and share information has made these meetings vital
to the success and growth of our company. It gives me the ability to see
where we have come in a six month period and then set up the next six
month short term goals. It gives my staff a way to assess where they are
along with the staff they oversee.
I recommend that if you don’t have a committee like this, that you develop
one. Find business professionals outside of our “niche”.
Enjoy your week and make the most of your minutes ...... Melissa Skaggs

Accountability ....
What does it really
mean???
We have all been in meetings where people say and even beg for accountability until it actually
comes down to themselves being held accountable and then here comes the excuses. I have come to
learn that accountability is what we all want but what we really all understand the least. When true
accountability is practiced in an organization things will change ... they have to.

“One of the best trainings I’ve ever attended!
The reality is that it all comes down to personal responsibility from everyone. The TOP to the
BOTTOM and the BOTTOM to the TOP. When everyone holds their piece of the rope great things
can happen. The rope stays strong and your organization will stay strong as well. We are all in this
together. Everyone has to work hard at holding their own selves accountable every day in all areas
Today is the day to end excuses and start living the real word of Accountability and see where it
takes you.
