This is an opportunity to talk to other business professionals about what we are doing and to get advice on how we can improve services, thoughts on new ideas/ventures, and just general day to day business needs. When we started this a couple of years ago, I really wasn’t sure about talking about the “business” with people who are not “in the business”. Not only that, there was some work involved in the preparation for the meeting, so I wasn’t crazy about devoting staff time to this process. Sometimes we have to admit when we are wrong and I was. This meeting and committee has become invaluable to me. Sitting in a room and spending a few uninterrupted hours with business professionals who are willing to give advice and share information has made these meetings vital to the success and growth of our company. It gives me the ability to see where we have come in a six month period and then set up the next six month short term goals. It gives my staff a way to assess where they are along with the staff they oversee. I recommend that if you don’t have a committee like this, that you develop one. Find business professionals outside of our “niche”. Enjoy your week and make the most of your minutes ......
