Diary Of Emperors’ Teacher The fifth generation of Weng Tonghe’s family has donated 47 volumes of manuscript of Weng’s diary to Shanghai Library. Weng (1830-1904) was the teacher of two Chinese emperors — Tongzhi and Guangxu, as well as an important political figure in the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911). The diary started from July 31, 1857 to June 27, 1904, seven days before Weng’s death. It covered 46 years of his life, which proved to be an important piece of historical material for the study of the late Qing dynasty. The manuscript of Weng’s literature collection was also donated to the library.
