Revolutionizing the
Software-defined Data Center
Full-featured Linux OS for Data
Center Networking
Cumulus Linux is the first full-featured Linux OS for data center
networking running seamlessly over bare metal switches. It delivers
high capacity fabrics with unprecedented price performance.
It enables a large ecosystem of native Linux applications and
automation tools on networking gear while delivering new levels
of innovation and flexibility to the data center. Through the new
disaggregated model, rich data center networking solutions
are augmented to support large-scale Clous fabrics and next
generation architectures.
Cumulus Linux is empowering the customer to build a modern,
scalable data center while bringing the same paradigms of
manageability, clustering, monitoring, and orchestration that
are applied at the server and virtual machine layer today to the
network, realizing the full promise of the software-defined data
center.
Best-in-Class Ethernet Switches
Dell offers best-in-class Ethernet switches with modern active
fabric architectures. Customers can have a true end-to-end
experience with common acquisition, deployment and operational
models from a single vendor for server, storage and networking.
Customers and business owners can plan their IT budgets and
infrastructure growth through a higher predictability of cost
savings. They reap the benefits of the global services from
Dell through a single point of contact and
accountability. Dell’s networking expertise
through their massive workforce also assists
in planning and deployment scenarios to

Challenges
■■
Enterprise networks, data centers and thr cloud are becoming increasingly complex, crowded, and difficult to
manage with rising demands and business growth.
■■
Traditional OS functions more like an embedded OS with minimal to no programmable way to configure the box
and primitive network management tool chain
■■
With network becoming the pivotal glue that holds all the infrastructure components together, the need to
provide a scalable fabric solution for uninterrupted operation across physical and virtual environments tends to
rely on the ability of a network administrator
■■
Ultimately, cloud scale necessitates more network programmability and automation
Joint Solution
Dell S3048-ON — Accelerate applications in high performance
environments with a low-latency, top-of-rack (ToR) switch that
features 48 x 1GbE and 4 x 10GbE ports, a dense 1U design and
up to 260Gbps performance. The S3048-ON also supports Open
Network Install Environment (ONIE) for zero-touch installation of
alternate network operating systems.

Dell S4810-ON — Deploy modern workloads and applications with a
high-density 1RU ToR switch that features 48-x 10GbE and 4 x 40GbE ports and offers low-latency, non-blocking operation.
It also supports ONIE for zero-touch installation of alternate network operating systems.
Dell S4048-ON — Optimize your network for virtualization with a high-density, ultra-low latency ToR switch that features 48 x
10GbE SFP+ and 6 x 40GbE ports (or 72 x 10GbE ports in breakout mode) and up to 720 Gbps performance. The S4048-ON also
supports Open Network Install Environment (ONIE) for zero-touch installation of alternate network operating systems.
Dell S6000-ON — Provide high-density switching for top-, middle- and end-of-rack deployments with a 1U switch that
features 32 x 40GbE ports or 96 x 10GbE ports plus eight 40GbE ports. The S6000-ON also supports ONIE for zero-touch
installation of network operating systems.
Dell Z9100-ON — Transform modern data centers with a high-performance ToR fixed switch that offers industry-leading
density of either 128 x 10GbE or 128 x 25GbE or 32 x 40GbE or 64 x 50GbE or 32 x 100GbE ports. The Z9100-ON also
supports ONIE for zero-touch installation of network operating systems.
Conclusion
Power of Choice — Customers have been benefiting greatly from the disaggregation on the compute side and now can
leverage the same with the dramatic changes making it to networking. It’s time for customers to be the decision makers,
without constraints, to deploy and experience the true value of networking.
Flexibility — To enable high capacity networks that are easy to deploy and affordable, helping customers realize the full
promise of the software-defined data center.
Accelerate Innovation — The disaggregated model using bare metal hardware with the freedom of OS will foster greater
innovation and allow for alternatives that drive an open ecosystem of orchestration and automation.
About Cumulus Networks ®
Cumulus Networks unleashes the power of open networking and accelerates its adoption with Cumulus Linux, the
operating system for open networking. Founded by veteran networking engineers from Cisco and VMware, Cumulus
Networks makes the first Linux operating system for networking hardware and fills a critical gap in realizing the true
promise of the software-defined data center. Just as Linux completely transformed the economics and innovation on
the server side of the data center, Cumulus Linux is doing the same for the network. It is radically reducing the costs
and complexities of operating modern data center networks for service providers and businesses of all sizes. Cumulus
Networks has received venture funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Battery Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Peter Wagner and
four of the original VMware founders. For more information visit cumulusnetworks.com or follow @cumulusnetworks.
