Today, we will visit one of
the most popular South
American countries. Here
are some clues to help you
guess which one it is.
The country's name means "Little Venice."
A scenic beach view.
To the north of this country
lies the Caribbean Sea and
to the east is the Atlantic
Ocean. This country has
mountains and plains.
Some United States
Companies even call this
country home.
Venezuela is the northern most country in South
America.
Capital City is Caracas.
Major Language: Spanish
Major Religion: Roman Catholic
Venezuela is the leading oil-producing nation in South
America. It exports 3/4 of the its oil to other countries.
60% of the oil is shipped to the United States.
So in response to less oil
being produced, Venezuela
also raises cattle, agriculture
and mining.

Caracas is the capital city.
Caracas is located in the Merida Range of
the Andes Mountains. It does not have a hot
humid climate as most of the country does
due to its elevation.
Simon Bolivar is called the "George Washington
of South America." He believed that the
countries of South America should be
independent. He had read about the United
States gaining its independence from Great
Britain by winning the Revolutionary War. He
lead the way in 1821 for Venezuela to gain
independence from Spain.
Venezuelan Money
Family is the center of Venezuelan life. Most of your free time is spent with
your family. It is very common for grandparents to help take care of
younger children. Many grandparents may even live with you.

When a Child Loses a Tooth
When a child loses a tooth he (she)
puts it under his (her) pillow at night
to give it to the Mouse Perez or El
Raton Perez, who leave money,
candy or gift for him (her). He takes
the tooth.
Kid's life
School day is 5 hours long. Some students go from 8 a.m.
to 1 p.m. and the second group goes from 1p.m. to 6 p.m.
Student wear a uniform to school.
Meals are provided at school.
Students are graded on a scale of 20. Ten is considered a
passing mark. You would not get a letter grade or a
percentage.
Elementary school is six years and Secondary school is
broken into two parts. The first three years consist of
generals studies and the final two years focuses on more
specialized learning in an area of interest.

Luis Aparicio is widely thought to be
the best baseball player in the
history of Venezuelan baseball. He
was inducted into the Baseball Hall
of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
