MATHEMATICS 1001 (Calculus II) — Winter 2016 WebAssign Information In order to provide you with as much practice as possible for Math 1001, a number of problem sets will be made available through WebAssign, the online homework system you probably used in Math 1000. WebAssign enables you to get instant feedback on your work, so that you can identify topics with which you may need additional assistance from your instructor or the Math 1001 Help Centre. WebAssign also interacts with the e-book version of your textbook, so that you can jump directly to material relevant to the homework problems. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics has established a website at http://www.math.mun.ca/webassign/ with instructions for setting up WebAssign, as well as answers to common questions. If you need any additional information, please contact the WebAssign administrator, Dr. Sullivan. He can be reached by e-mail at shannon@mun.ca or by phone at 864-8073; his office is in room HH-3037. What do I need to buy? To use WebAssign, you must purchase a WebAssign access code and enter it into your WebAssign account. To ensure uninterrupted access to your problem sets, you should do so by January 20th. An access code can be purchased from the MUN Bookstore in a bundle with the textbook or on its own. One can also be purchased directly through your WebAssign account. If you purchased an access code in a previous semester, you will need to purchase a new access code for this semester. How does evaluation work? For each problem set, you will be given a Target Number of questions to answer correctly, and a deadline. Prior to the deadline, you can retry each question as often as you like. However, each time you retake a question, some details of the problem will change. If you achieve the Target Number before the deadline, you will be given a “Pass” on that problem set. At the end of the semester, your WebAssign mark will be calculated by dividing the number of “Passes” you earn by the total number of assignments. Things to bear in mind When you sign up for WebAssign, you must use your MUN e-mail address (in accordance with Memorial University policy). Your MUN e-mail address can be set up through http://my.mun.ca. A notification that a new problem set has been posted will be sent to your MUN e-mail address. Your instructor will not necessarily announce a new problem set in class. It’s your responsibility to be aware of WebAssign deadlines. Students are encouraged to work on each WebAssign problem set as soon as it is posted. A technical problem with WebAssign will not be grounds for an extension of the deadline. WebAssign recognises a correct answer in any valid form. You do not have to write the answer exactly as it appears in the solution key, but you must use proper mathematical notation. If you believe that WebAssign is marking your answer erroneously, contact the WebAssign administrator.
