A) Communications. Options available in: Advertising, Entertainment & Tourism, Journalism (Broadcast, Print, Visual), Photocommunications, and Public
Relations. The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication has set forth strict guidelines for majors in communications. It is
imperative that students review the CSUF catalog for additional requirements.
2.1: Required for all options except Advertising.
B) Speech Communication. Options available in: Argumentation and Persuasion, Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication,
Organizational Communication, Communication Studies
C) Communicative Disorders. 2.2: No lower division preparation for Communicative Disorders.

A) Communication Studies: Local Admission: Minimum 2.5 GPA required and completion of major preparation coursework above with a 2.5 GPA for
admission. Options available in Communication Studies General, Interpersonal and Organizational Communication, and Communication, Culture, and
Public Affairs. AAT accepted in General and Interpersonal / Organizational options only.
3.1: Required for option in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication.
B) Communicative Disorders. Local Admission: Minimum 3.5 GPA required and completion of major preparation coursework above with a 3.0 GPA.
3.2: Recommended science preparation: One Biological Science course (BIOL G221 recommended), One Physical Science course (CHEM G110 or PHYSCI
G100 recommended), One Social Science course (PSYC G100 or PSYC G250 recommended).
C) BA in Journalism: Local Admission: Minimum 2.0 GPA required and completion of major preparation coursework above.

Communication Studies, with options available in Social Change and Rhetoric, Performance Studies, Organizational Communication and Public
Relations, and Interpersonal Communication/Language and Social Interaction.
4.2: Elective coursework for major.

4.3: Complete three semesters of college-level American Sign Language (SIGN G180+G185+G280).
UC DAVIS: This major is highly selective and requires preparatory coursework for admission. Minimum 2.8 Cumulative and 3.0 GPA in major
preparation coursework. Recommended that major preparation coursework be completed by the time of application for transfer.
5.1: Complete either COMM G100 or COMM G110
5.2: IGETC Certification required. Transfer students pursuing this major who do not certify IGETC must complete a college graduation requirement
in a foreign language.
UCLA: THIS MAJOR IS HIGHLY SELECTIVE; applications undergo review by faculty in the Communication Studies Department. Students must
complete a minimum of four major prep courses by the Fall term prior to admission (coursework should be completed by time of application for
transfer). All courses must be taken for a letter grade. A minimum UC-transferable cumulative GPA of 3.70 is required for faculty review. Visit

6.1: Select three courses from those listed above.
6.2: An AP Exam A score of 3 or higher on the AP Statistics exam can be used in place of the statistics course (MATH G160)
A score of 4 or higher on the AP Psychology exam is equivalent to Psychology 10 and can be used in place of the psychology course (PSY G100).
A score of 4 or higher on the AP Microeconomics exam is equivalent to Econ 1 and can be used in place of the microeconomics course (ECON G170).
UC SAN DIEGO:
7.1: Transfer students are admitted as a pre-major, and upon acceptance to UCSD, will be permitted to enroll in coursework for the major during
their first term at UCSD.
UC SANTA BARBARA: 2014-15 Articulation not available. 2013-14 information included.
8.1: Students are admitted initially to the pre-major. Students will not be admitted to full Communication major status until they complete major
preparation coursework at UCSB, with no grade below C- and with a grade-point average of at least 3.00 .
8.2: Course not articulated but acceptable for substitution.
