Carnegie Mellon University Pre-College Programs are available to current sophomores and juniors.
These are six-week programs (June 25 - August 5, 2011) in a variety of areas that may allow you to earn

Centre Fellows Scholarship Program – open to current juniors. This nomination will allow students to
receive a waiver of their application fee to Centre College as well as win a minimum $14,000 per year
scholarship to Centre. Students must be in the top 5% of their class, taking a strong college preparatory
curriculum, have an SAT verbal and math score of 1250 or an ACT score of 28 or better, and participate
in the life of their school, community, or place of worship. See Mrs. Elaman before May 15 to be

Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Power of Children Award – open to students currently in grades 611. Four to six winners who have made a significant impact on the lives of others, demonstrated
selflessness, and exhibited a commitment to service and the betterment of society will receive a grant of
$2,000 to be used to further his or her extraordinary project, a four-year post-secondary scholarship to a
participating Indiana-based institution of higher learning. For more information, visit

Commonwealth Honors Academy at Murray State is June 4-25 for current juniors with a 3.5 GPA and a
25 ACT Composite score. If accepted, your only cost will be transportation to and from campus and
spending money. You will have the opportunity to earn six hours of tuition-free college credit as well as
a guaranteed four-year housing scholarship to Murray State. The application deadline is March 1. For

Dick Lugar Academy Days – Open to current sophomores and juniors who may be interested in
attending a United States Service Academy. Each event will include representatives from each of the
Service Academies as well as ROTC representatives from multiple branches of service. Events will be

Entrepreneurship Academy @ Purdue Research Park is open to current sophomores and juniors. The
goal of the Academy is to provide innovative math, science and technology-based business and life skills
that empower young people and offer them unique opportunities and real-world experiences. The

FBI Youth Leadership Academy – open to current juniors who have a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale),
possess qualities of leadership, scholastic achievement and good citizenship, can commit to attending
the entire three day program (July 6, 7 and 8) and write an essay of no more than 500 words depicting
their interest in the program and how it will enhance their future plans. Applications must be received

Junior Executive Institute – open to current sophomores and juniors from African-American, Latino, and
American Indian backgrounds who are or might be interested in the business field. Students participate
in workshops geared toward productive team management, effective note taking and how to succeed in
the study of business. Students will also present a business plan that features managerial, financial,
marketing and accounting skills. Session I is June 12-17 and Session II is June 19 – 24. Applicants must

Juniors Exploring Engineering at Purdue – Open to junior girls who are interested in studying

Kiwanis Key Leader Conference to be held April 15-17, 2011 in Marion, Indiana. The Historic Newburgh

NASS is held in three sessions: June 4-9, June 11-16 and June 18-23. Summer Seminar introduces
students to the opportunities at the Naval Academy where academics, athletics, and professional
training play equally important roles in developing our nation's leaders. Students will live in the
dormitory, Bancroft Hall, eat in the dining facility, King Hall; participate in academic and leadership
workshops; and experience a variety of other activities at the academy. Students will have an
opportunity to see first-hand what the academy has to offer through its exceptional academic, athletic,
extracurricular activities and leadership training programs. The academy’s current students, known as
midshipmen, run the Summer Seminar training with oversight by active duty Navy and Marine Corps

Purdue University Research Park’s Entrepreneurship Academy will be held June 19 – 24 for current
sophomores and juniors who demonstrate an aptitude in the areas of math, science and technology
along with an interest in entrepreneurship. Students will work in teams on a fundamental business case
to determine the best way for a business to compete, identify capital needs to start a business and
devise a plan for managing a business successfully. This is a free program to all students who are
selected to participate with the exception of a $75 registration fee. Scholarships are available to cover
the expense of the registration fee if the student’s family is unable. If you are interested in being

Purdue University Summer Camps for students who will have completed grades 9-12 will be held July 316. The cost for the two-week session is $1,750. Class topics include Rube Goldberg engineering, aliens,
history and politics, organic chemistry, psychology, filmmaking, financial math, bioengineering, the
physics of space travel, interviewing, murders that changed history, the politics of youth rebellion in

Questbridge College Prep Scholarship Program – Educates high-achieving low-income juniors about the
many options that exist for them at selective colleges and helps them to become competitive applicants

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising is offering a 3-day summer program for high school
students interested in careers in Fashion Merchandising, Product Development, Design, Styling, Special

The Reynolds Young Writers Workshop at Denison University is an 8-day residential program in
creative writing for current sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Program dates are June 12-19, 2011. The

United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS) - NASS is designed for current juniors. This
program is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high-achievers who may be interested in pursuing an
appointment to one of the nation’s service academies and serving as a military officer after graduation.
University of Southern Indiana GO STEM! Summer Camp is open to current freshman or sophomore
girls interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers. GO STEM! participants
will visit Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari amusement park for experiments and activities in chemistry
and nutrition, mathematics, biology, and engineering/applied physics. Each student must be
recommended by her science or mathematics teacher with a letter of reference as well as submit a
typed essay of 300 or fewer words indicating their STEM field of interest and her personal expectations

Valparaiso University School of Law Teen Law College provides students with the opportunity to study
key areas of the law, including criminal, juvenile, and family as well as experience law as it is practiced.
Students will role play their own trials as well as learn from judges, public defenders, prosecutors and
