ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS 2013-2014 Catalog

1. Submit Application for Admission
 Submit form to Admissions and Records Office, Bladen Hall Room 126 or apply online www.pgcc.edu.
 Pay $25.00 application fee.
 Prince George’s County residents are given first priority for admissions to the Allied Health and Nursing
Programs. See the College Catalog for information about out-of-county admissions. Out-of-state students are only
considered for admission when the available seats are not filled by qualified Maryland residents.
 Students attending the college on a non-dom iciliary visa w ill not be considered for adm ission in any of these
program s. In order to participate in clinical education courses, all students accepted into any of these program s
m ust have a social security num ber.
2. Complete Appropriate Placement Tests
 Required for all first time college students after admissions application is submitted.
 Michigan Test required for those students whose native language is not English.
 Students transferring from other institutions may be exempt from all or part of this test battery, provided they bring
proof of successful prerequisite completion. Consult an Academic Advisor if you are not sure.
3. College Credits Transferred to PGCC and Transfer Credit Evaluation
 Submit Request for Evaluation of Transfer Credit form at the Admissions & Records office (otherwise transcript
will not be evaluated for program of interest).


Failure to have transcript(s) sent to PGCC in a tim ely m anner could delay your eligibility to com plete
the required qualifying prerequisites and adm ission to a Health Science program .
Foreign Coursework: Transcripts from colleges and universities outside the United States must have a full courseby-course evaluation completed by a recognized credential evaluation service. Call 301-322-0820 or email

experience.

Request that each of your previous colleges send official transcripts to the PGCC Admissions and Records Office.
RANKING CRITERIA: Students should be aware that the courses and grades indicated below are the minimum
standard to be met for program consideration. If there are more petitioners than seats in a class, students will be
ranked according to their cumulative GPA in all general education courses required by the program in question, not just
those which are required to petition. Students with the best GPAs for the greatest number of required general
education courses will be admitted first, followed by those with lower GPAs and fewer completed courses, until the
class is filled. Please note: There will be changes to the selective admission process and ranking criteria
beginning in spring 2015. Please refer to the Health Sciences Division website for details.
PREREQUISITE REPEAT POLICY: Students may repeat a prerequisite course only once to achieve the required
grade, and W and Q grades each count as one attempt.

NUR 1010 (NUR 1010 prerequisites are EGL 1010, BIO 1010, BIO 2050 and

minimum 2.5 GPA overall in these four courses; BIO 2060 and PSY 1010
completed or concurrent.), EGL 1010, MAT 1120 or higher, BIO 1010, BIO 2050,

GPA overall in these seven courses.
NUR 1000 (NUR 1000 prerequisites are EGL 1010, BIO 1010, and BIO 2050
completed with a “C” or better grade and a minimum 2.5 GPA overall in
these three courses and eligibility for MAT 1120 or higher; BIO 2060 and
PSY 1010 completed or concurrent.), EGL 1010, BIO 1010, BIO 2050, BIO
2060 and PSY 1010 completed with no grade below a C and a minimum 2.5 GPA
overall in these six courses to qualify for competitive ranking. Must be eligible for
college-level math, MAT 1120 or higher.
EGL 1010, MAT 1120 or higher, PSY 1010, BIO 1010, BIO 2050, BIO 2060 and BIO
2010 completed with no grade lower than a “C” and a minimum 2.5 GPA overall in
these seven courses. Must have an active, unencumbered Maryland LPN license or
Compact license from another state.
EGL 1010, MAT 1120 or higher, PSY 1010, BIO 1010, BIO 2050, BIO 2060, and BIO
2010 completed with no grade below a C and a minimum 2.5 GPA overall in these
seven courses. Must have current Maryland paramedic license, 3 years experience
as a paramedic, National Board of Registry Certification (NREMT/P), and be a
graduate from an accredited program.

BIO 1010, BIO 2050, BIO 2060, CHM 1010, MAT 1350, PHY 1010, HIM 1800, PSY
1010, EGL 1010, EGL 1020, SPH 1090 completed with “C” grade or higher, 2.5
GPA overall in these eleven courses. Note: License or certification in Radiography,
Respiratory Therapy, Medical Technology, Radiation Therapy, or Nursing required
for admission to the certificate program.
EMT-B Certification and affiliation required. Potential enrollees must be eligible for
EGL 1010, MAT 0104 or higher and BIO courses. See Paramedic Program Director
for information.
EGL 1010, Math 1120 or higher, BIO 1010, BIO 2050, and BIO 2060 completed with
“C” grade or higher and a minimum 2.5 GPA overall in these five courses.
BIO 1010, BIO 2050, BIO 2060, MAT 1120, and PSC 1150 or CHM 1010 completed
with no grade below a “C” and a minimum 2.5 GPA overall in these five courses;
Eligibility for EGL 1010.
NOTES: The criteria listed above are the minimum requirements for consideration. There is no guarantee of admission to any of these programs based solely
upon meeting the minimum standard. Student is responsible for com pleting all prerequisite program and graduation requirements. A criminal
background check, drug screen and health insurance are required of all students in the health science clinical programs. Your social security number will be
verified as part of the background check. Continued participation in each program is contingent upon a satisfactory response on the background check and
drug screen. All information on the background check and drug screen remains confidential and is only shared with the requesting clinical agencies. If a clinical
agency denies clinical placement for a student because of the background check or drug screen, that student may not be able to complete the clinical program.
