Anyone who has watched Project Runway or is in-the-know when it comes to fashion knows of Tim Gunn. A smart, talented, and overall likeable gentleman, he knows a thing or two when it comes to fashion and design. So when I heard he designed a bedding collection for QVC and that I would have the privilege of interviewing him about that collection, I was over the moon! and one of an administrator. Circumstances brought me to the Department of Fashion Design in 2000. So, in a manner of speaking, fashion was thrust upon me unexpectedly. We never know where life’s serendipitous path may lead us.”
“I’ve always been passionate about interiors, so when this opportunity came about, I was extremely excited!” Tim told me. “I believe in delivering high-quality design for an affordable price. It’s so critically important to design with the customer as your centerpiece.”
The path Tim is now exploring, home décor, reflects his travels and the objects in his home. The Dynasty Collection (seen on page 47) was inspired by the art and pottery he acquired on his many trips to Asia.
“I am insatiable when it comes to art and antiques from Asia,” he shared. “During my years at Parsons, my associate dean responsibilities took me to various places in Asia almost every month for eight years—Tokyo, Kanazawa,
Seoul, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong. I bought at least one piece of art or pottery every trip.” Tim Gunn – Home & Bedding Collection , which premieres
Friday, September 26 at 9pm ET , offers bedding with decorative accent pillows and sheet sets designed with a particular point of view, that coordinate flawlessly with each other. “The idea of the collection is to let me dress your bed with classic, refined styling and the comfort you would hope to have to make your bedroom your sanctuary,” Tim explained,
“something we all look for in our master suite.”
My husband and I are currently building a house, and I would have been crazy not to try and get some design advice during this interview! Tim was more than helpful and generous with his tips. “Building a new home is simultaneously exciting and daunting! My advice is to express yourself through your rooms, ignore trends, and let what you love resonate in your interiors.
A home is a kind of nest, and I love to come home to mine.”
The collection was inspired by fashion, something Tim has plenty of experience with: “I look at how you might put an outfit together, and why should your bed be any different?” But surprisingly, Tim never planned on a career in fashion. “During my 29 years at Parsons, I wore two hats—one of a teacher

Finally, we all know Tim Gunn has plenty of experience in front of the camera, but I wanted to know if there’s anything about coming on QVC that makes him nervous. He confessed, “I’m a wreck anticipating it! Yes, I have 10 solid years of on-camera experience, but QVC is an entirely different threshold. I will say that I like live television because all you can do is move forward—there’s no looking back. But I’m crossing my fingers that the segment will be a huge success!”
