4-H Summer
Exchange
Program
College of Architecture
CAMP Architecture
Designed for middle school and high school students,
CAMP Architecture is a five-day sequence of highly
orchestrated workshops.
Host a Japanese young person for 4 weeks this summer and bring the world to your family.
Since 1972, the 4-H pledge has included the phrase – “… and my world” – to recognize and
celebrate our international connections and interdependence. Arizona 4-H offers a number of
opportunities for 4-H members and families to experience the richness of the world, even without leaving home. Each summer, we need 10 host families for 10 Japanese 4-H/LABO youth ages
12-16 who come to Arizona for one month – July 22nd
through August 19th. These eager Japanese youth want
to experience American culture and learn English better by
staying with your family. They need a host sibling of the same
approximate age and we are in need of male host families.
Applications for hosting a Japanese delegate may be completed on-line by setting
up an account at this website http://www.states4hexchange.org/ host-families/
or you may fill out then print fill out a form found here:
http://extension.arizona. edu/4h/state/inbound-japanese-exchange-program
and send it to the Arizona 4-H office: University of Arizona, Coop. Ext. / Forbes 301,
Tucson, AZ 85721, attn.: Kirk Astroth. Hosting opportunities are limited,
so get your application in as soon as possible – preferably before June 30.

(Lunch break noon-1:00pm, lunch not included)

Summer Camp Selection Tips
Presented by Healthy Children Arizona
What to look for when
choosing a summer camp
Healthy
Children
Arizona
Look for a camp that promotes:
Sun Safety
1
Limits the amount of outdoor activities scheduled between
10am and 4pm (when the sun’s rays are the strongest).
2 Encourages staff and campers to wear long sleeves
and pants, broad brimmed hats, and sunglasses
when they are outside.
3 Promotes the use of an SPF 30 sunscreen.
2012 Sports Camps
There are a variety of sports camps going on this summer for
young athletes. These camps include:
Baseball Men’s Basketball
Women’s Basketball Football
Gymnastics Soccer Softball
Volleyball
Please visit
http://www.arizonawildcats.com/camps/ariz-camps.html
for more information about each sports camp.
Nutrition
4
Offers campers water, milk, and limited amounts of
100% juice to drink instead of sugary drinks.
5 Offers campers nutritious snacks such as fruits and
veggies and avoids processed, high fat, high sodium foods.
Technology
6
Places limits on the amount of time campers spend watching TV and movies.
7 Does not allow the use of electronic devices.
