These instructions are very detailed. Discuss with your health care provider or pharmacist. Tell your health
care provider that you must stop these medications to have this scan. You can restart them after your scan.
72 hours (3 days) before your scan. Do not take these medications:

For 24 hours (1 day) Before Your Scan Do Not Take
 any products containing Aspirin® or ASA (Acetylsalicylic Acid)
 any diuretics (water pills)
On the Day of Your Scan
 Do not take any blood pressure medication. However, if you are taking a high blood pressure medication
for your heart or an irregular heart rhythm, do not stop this medication unless you check first with your
own doctor.
 Do not eat for 4 hours before your scan. You may drink water or other clear fluids such as clear tea, black
coffee, or apple juice. If you have diabetes you may eat to safely manage your blood sugar levels.
 Bring a list of all your prescription medications.
Other Information
 Wear comfortable clothing without metal buttons or zippers, if possible.
 You do not need to have someone come with you to the hospital. There are no effects from this test.
 Nuclear medicine scans do not use dyes. Allergies to Nuclear Medicine tracers are very rare.
 Do not wear lotions, perfumes, hair sprays, or other products that are scented. The Regina Qu’Appelle
Health Region has scent free facilities.
 Call us if you are breastfeeding. You may need to stop after the scan for a few hours or days.
 Call us if you think you may be pregnant.
