MELBOURNE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING CALCULATOR POLICY Examination and tests in the Melbourne School of Engineering are to be marked on the front page with one of these three alternative instructions: 1. All calculators may be used 2. Only Faculty approved calculators may be used 3. No calculators may be used Prior to any text or examination, the examiner for that subject must inform students of the policy that applies in that subject, using as many as possible of the following methods of communication: statement in the introductory handout; announcement via the subject webpage; announcement in the lecture prior to the test or exam; and example instructions given to students as part of a practice test or exam. “School approved” calculators are calculators that only have basic arithmetic and memory (storage) capabilities. These calculators can include built-in trigonometric and logarithmic and statistical functions, but may NOT be programmable (i.e. calculators in which the user can store a sequence of operations that the calculator can execute automatically are not permitted); may not be graphical; may NOT have the ability to store text, or other information; and must not be able to communicate with other devices (via infrared, Bluetooth or similar). Students in the Melbourne School of Engineering will be expected to have access to one of the “School/Faculty approved” calculators in the list on the next page. Students must take this calculator to the Engineering Student Centre to have an official MSE sticker applied to their calculator. Calculators without this sticker attached may not be taken into any examinations or tests for which the Examiner has designated as “Only School/Faculty approved calculators may be used”. The official MSE stickers may not be transferred from one calculator to another. The current list of approved calculator models is provided on the following page. Please note: • • • This list is non-negotiable. Please do not ask to have other calculator models added The model number must correspond exactly with a model on this list for a sticker to be provided Stickers are tamper evident. Any attempt to remove a sticker will render the approval void. • • • • • • School Approved Calculators HP Hewlett Packard SmartCalc300S Scientific Calculator *Hewlett Packard SmartCalc 300S (update of HP 30 S) Hewlett Packard EasyCalc 100 (update of HP 10 S) *Hewlett Packard 30 S Hewlett Packard 35 S *Hewlett Packard 10 S & Hewlett Packard 10S Scientific Calculator • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Casio Casio FX-81AU Casio FX-82AU Casio FX-82AU Plus (update of Casio 82AU) Casio FX-82ES *Casio FX-82ES Plus Casio FX-82MS Casio FX-82TL Casio FX-83ES Casio FX-85MS *Casio FX-100AU Casio FX-100MS Casio LS-330H Casio FX-350MS Casio FX-350ES Casio FX-350TL Casio FX-570W Casio HL-820V S Casio FX-911Z Casio FX-911W Casio FX-991ES • • • • Sharp Sharp EL-520WG Sharp EL-531WH *Sharp EL-531WHB Sharp EL-531RH • • • • • • • Texas Instruments *Texas Instruments TI-30X B Texas Instruments TI-30X B Multiview Texas Instruments TI30XII B Texas Instruments TI30XII X Texas Instruments TI30Xa Texas Instruments TI 36XII Texas Instruments TI34 Multiview *Stocked by Melbourne University Bookshop Dolphin Peripherals 379717 Scientific Calculator
