The Chalkboard Vol. 1 – Issue 2 Dr. Luke J. Lansberry, Principal/Elementary Curriculum Director Cambria Elementary School 212 Schoolhouse Road Great Start The students, teachers, and support staff at Cambria Elementary School are settling in and adjusting well to the new school year. Our kindergarten students, who often have the most difficulty in adjusting to school, are forming good habits and behavior patterns necessary for success throughout the school day! Parents, teachers, and support staff are to be commended for assisting the children as they re-adjust from their summer schedules to the challenges of beginning a new school year. Your new Principal/Elementary Curriculum Director is also adjusting well! I’m extremely impressed by the passion for teaching and learning that is evident throughout the school and district. The climate for learning is extremely positive and will certainly ensure success at high levels for everyone working toward this goal. Success breeds success! This positive environment will surely assist all of us in our ongoing efforts toward school improvement. CC Education Foundation Some of you may have seen the Central Cambria Education Foundation display set up inside the lobby during Open House on September 1st. The Education (814) 472-8432 October 1, 2010 Foundation supports various educational opportunities for all CC students throughout the school year! Your generous gifts to the Education Foundation are essential and greatly appreciated by our students and faculty! You can designate your gift to support academics, athletics, scholarships, the arts, or technology. Your gifts will be gratefully acknowledged – both personally and publicly. And, you’ll likely be eligible for tax benefits. Please consider donating! Foundation brochures, which include additional CCEF information, are available in the office and at http://cchs.k12.pa.us/district/foundation. html Fire Drill/Safety A school fire drill will be conducted during Fire Prevention Week on October 6th with assistance from the Ebensburg Fire Department. Halloween Parade The annual Halloween parade will be held outside for parents at 9:30am on Friday, October 29th. Students may wear their costumes to school (if it is safe and feasible) or they can bring their costume to school and change into it. If the weather is favorable, we will parade out the front door (by the office) and return through the rear door. Parents are invited to watch from the parking lot. If it rains, the parade will be held indoors and we ask that parents do not attend. Having so many parents in the building is a safety concern and a risk to our students. We appreciate your cooperation and support in this decision. Classroom parties will be held in each classroom at a time scheduled by each teacher. We encourage you to provide healthy treats and drinks should be 100% fruit juice. Educational Trip Form Please contact your child’s teacher or stop by the elementary office for an Educational Trip Form if you are planning to take your child out of school during the school year for a family trip. The form must be completed and submitted to the office for approval prior to taking your child from school so that absences will be recorded as excused absences. Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Please do not block the sidewalk area in front of the school when dropping-off or picking-up your child(ren) at school. This area becomes very congested at the beginning and end of the school day. Parking is available in either the visitor lot or the teachers’ lot. Mini-buses and student vans must enter the area directly in front of the school to drop off and pick up children.
