The Chalkboard
Vol. 1 – Issue 2
Dr. Luke J. Lansberry, Principal/Elementary Curriculum Director
Cambria Elementary School 212 Schoolhouse Road
Great Start
The students, teachers, and support staff
at Cambria Elementary School are
settling in and adjusting well to the new
school year. Our kindergarten students,
who often have the most difficulty in
adjusting to school, are
forming good habits and
behavior
patterns
necessary for success
throughout the school
day! Parents, teachers, and support staff
are to be commended for assisting the
children as they re-adjust from their
summer schedules to the challenges of
beginning a new school year.
Your
new
Principal/Elementary
Curriculum Director is also adjusting
well! I’m extremely impressed by the
passion for teaching and learning that is
evident throughout the school and
district. The climate for learning is
extremely positive and will certainly
ensure success at high levels for
everyone working toward this goal.
Success breeds success! This positive
environment will surely assist all of us in
our ongoing efforts toward school
improvement.
CC Education Foundation
Some of you may have seen the Central
Cambria Education Foundation display
set up inside the lobby during Open

and
greatly

by
our
students and faculty! You

Fire Drill/Safety
A school fire drill will be conducted
during Fire Prevention
Week on October 6th with
assistance
from
the
Ebensburg Fire Department.
Halloween Parade
The annual Halloween parade will be
held outside for parents at 9:30am on
Friday, October 29th.
Students may wear
their costumes to
school (if it is safe
and feasible) or they
can bring their costume to school and
change into it. If the weather is
favorable, we will parade out the front
door (by the office) and return through
the rear door. Parents are invited to
watch from the parking lot. If it rains,
the parade will be held indoors and we
ask that parents do not attend. Having so
many parents in the building is a safety
concern and a risk to our students. We
appreciate your cooperation and support
in this decision. Classroom parties will
be held in each classroom at a time
scheduled by each teacher. We
encourage you to provide healthy treats
and drinks should be 100% fruit juice.
PTO SPONSORED PROGRAMS:
Doc Dixon Visits on October 8th
In this program
students learn what
bullying is —
physical violence,
verbal taunts
and
excluding
classmates. They learn bullying hurts the
entire student body (not just the victims)
and they learn what to do when they
encounter bullying and The Four
S.T.A.R. Steps™ to deal with bullies.
Anti-Bullying Play/Program
The PTO is sponsoring a bullying

will participate in this program from
2:00-2:30. Students in Grades K-2 will
enjoy the program from 2:453:15. The purpose of this
program is to educate
children about safety, crime
prevention,
values
and
responsibility in a way that
they
will
not
only
understand, but remember!
They also present community
standards that build respect for and
strengthen relationships with authority
figures such as parents, police, and
educators. Officer Phil uses magic,
ventriloquism,
and
technology
throughout his presentation.
Hearing Screening
Students in grades K-3 will have their
hearing checked on October 14th as part
of the annual hearing screening
scheduled with our team of school
nurses.

of purchase labels from these products
may be sent to school with your child.

PTO Meeting
PTO Giant Eagle Program
Mrs. Kim Holsinger is in charge of the
Giant Eagle Apples for Students
program. This program begins on
October 1st and continues through March
14th. You must enroll your Giant Eagle
Advantage Card again this year – even
if you have enrolled in the past!
Parents and friends of our school can
register their Giant Eagle cards by
accessing
www.gianteagle.com/about/apples-forstudents or calling (800) 474-4777. The
phone system is very simple to use. The
school’s ID # is 4004. You
will need this number to
register. Once registered,
all of your purchases will be directly
credited as points to our school (it will
not affect your gas perks). At the end of
this program, these points will be
redeemed for school equipment. Please
call Kim Hollsinger at 472-1217 with
any questions.
PTO Collections
The PTO collects various boxtops and
labels throughout the school year and
redeems them for school equipment.
They are currently collecting General
PTO meeting, 6:30 pm
at Jackson Elementary,
Tuesday, October 12
PTO Fundraiser
The PTO’s annual fundraising drive
begins October 15. Students will be
selling gourmet snacks, flower bulbs,
flags, cookie mixes, coffee and snacks.
Please
support
this
worthwhile
organization which does so much for our
school and students!
Educational Trip Form
Please contact your child’s teacher or
stop by the elementary office for an
Educational Trip Form if you are
planning to take your child out of school
during the school year for a family trip.
The form must be completed and
submitted to the office for approval prior
to taking your child from school so that
absences will be recorded as excused
absences.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Please do not block the sidewalk area in
front of the school when dropping-off or
picking-up your child(ren) at school.
This area becomes very congested at the
beginning and end of the school day.
Parking is available in either the visitor
lot or the teachers’ lot. Mini-buses and
student vans must enter the area directly
in front of the school to drop off and
pick up children. It becomes a safety
concern when parents are parked in an
area where students are walking. We
appreciate your help in keeping all
students safe!
New Baby
Congratulations
to Mrs. Davis
on the birth of
her new baby boy! Mrs. Davis plans to
return to school in November.
Red Ribbon Week
Each year a special campaign helps to
create awareness of the challenges
presented in our communities by drugs
and alcohol. We encourage students to
choose safe, healthy, and drug-free
lifestyles all year long but place extra
emphasis during red ribbon week.
Students will have a special theme each
day as a fun reminder of this campaign.
Friday, Oct. 29th is “Don’t Let Drugs
Trick you – Treat Your
Body Right” Day –
students will bring their
Halloween costumes to
school.
Title I Literacy Night
